The Mt. Pleasant High School girl’s basketball teams entertain Cedar Rapids Prairie tonight. The JV teams meet at 6 p.m. followed by the varsity. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will have score updates during our live coverage of the MPHS boys playing basketball at Muscatine.
The Panther girls fell to #1 ranked class 3A Mediapolis this past Saturday 68-58 after winning Friday night over a strong Fairfield squad in a conference game. M.P. has a record of 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Cedar Rapids Prairie under the direction of Josh Bently in his 1st year as head coach for the Hawks, his team has a 1-11 record. They are led by Junior Oliva Usher who scores 9 points a game and Freshman Halle Peterson at 8 points a game.
The 4-7 Mt. Pleasant Panther boys team travels to Muscatine tonight to play the Muskies who have a record of 2-8, they played Davenport West last night and lost to the Falcons 51-48. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj-com will carry the varsity game live at 7:30 p.m. and give you MPHS girls score updates as they host Cedar Rapids Prairie. The M.P. JV will play Muscatine at 6 p.m.
MPHS freshman boys defeated Muscatine Monday in Panther Gym Monday Night by a score of 61-60. At halftime it was tied at 23, heading into the 4th quarter the Panthers trailed by ten 46-36 but came back for the win. Leading scorers Jake Lowe 17, Jonathan Ita 14, Damion Lorenzo 13. Panther freshman at 6-4 play Friday at home against Keokuk.
The latest rankings of boys high school basketball teams has Ft. Madison ranked 10th in class 3A, Danville is ranked #2 in class 1A.
The Iowa Wesleyan College men play tonight at Lincoln Christian University.
Mt. Pleasant High School will host an Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union girl’s and Iowa High School Athletic Association boy’s district bowling tournament on February 17th at the Iris Bowling Center. Teams involved along with the Mt. Pleasant High School teams will be: Oskaloosa, Burlington and Keokuk. The State Bowling team and individual qualifiers will be determined. Last year M.P. had 1 individual qualifier for the girl’s tournament and the MPHS boy’s team qualified and finished 9th.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released the District competitors for Class 1A and 2A boys basketball tournaments. The Districts are scheduled to begin February 16th. District #9 of Class 1A has Danville, Cardinal of Eldon, Harmony, Holy Trinity Catholic, Maharishi, New London, Pekin, Van Buren, Waco and Winfield Mt. Union. The winner of that district will play the winner of district #10 in the substate championship for the right to go to the state tournament. Teams in district #10: Keota, Lynnville-Sully, Moravia, Moulton Udell, North Mahaska, Seymour, Sigourney, Twin Cedars and Corydon Wayne.
The 2A District #10 has Central Lee, Columbus Community, Highland, Mediapolis, Notre Dame, Wapello and West Burlington. They will play the District #9 champ in the substate, the teams in that district are: Durant, L&M, Iowa City Regina, West Branch, West Liberty and Wilton.
The 3A and 4A substate pools will be announced in another week.
The Mt. Pleasant versus Solon girls basketball games that were to be played Monday January 5th have been rescheduled for Monday January 26th. Fresh-Soph game begins at 4:30, followed by the JV and Varsity games. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Henry County Conservation Naturalist Cari Nicely has announced the schedule for this year’s fly tying classes. This year there is one for beginners and one for experienced tiers. Here are the details of the classes.
