The young Mt. Pleasant High School boy’s basketball team lost 69-41 against a deep and talented Iowa City City High team Monday night. The Panthers played the Little Hawks even in the 1st quarter as the game was tied 15 all after 8 minutes. Then the Hawks started forcing turnovers with their press and turned that into easy baskets to grab a 42-24 lead at halftime. Mt. Pleasant got a slow start in the 2nd half and could not close the gap on the visitors. Kieran Kohorst had 11 points and Brady Sartorius had 9 to lead the Mt. Pleasant scoring.
In the JV game Mt. Pleasant won in overtime 52-47. Brock Wilson had 12 points, Brody McGhghy 11 and Maison Ashton had 10 points.
Friday Mt. Pleasant goes back into the conference playing at Fairfield for freshman, JV and varsity action. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m.

KILJ-FM will bring you a Super Conference Super Tuesday matchup tonight when the Danville High School girls and boys basketball teams travel to Burlington Notre Dame to play the Nikes.
The #1 ranked and defending state champion Burlington Notre Dame girls varsity team is off to an 11-0 start with one of those 11 wins coming over Danville back on December 2nd when they beat the Lady Bears 92-33 in Danville. Notre Dame is led in scoring by senior Taylor Hickey who is averaging 18 points a game, Riley Killbride scores 16 points a game, and she has verbally committed to St. Ambrose College recently. Kori Mesecher averages just under 10 rebounds a game. For Danville who is 4-6 they are led by Kinsey Petersen who scores 12 points a game, Carlee Kelly adds 9 points a game. Kelly also leads the rebounding with 7 per game. The Bears are going to have to find a way to stop the scoring of Notre Dame as they average 80 points a game and have scored over 80 points in 4 games.
The boys contest will feature the #2 ranked Danville Bears, they also average 80 points a game, Mason Speer averages 15 per game, Connor Hoelzen 15 and Hunter Peebler 13. Danville has hit 44 3 point goals this season, but have started to look to get the ball inside a little more this year. Notre Dame will be after some revenge after losing to the Bears 83-58 at Danville in the season opener for both teams. Xavier Williams averages 17 points a game and Jeff Giannettino 12 along with 6 rebounds a game.

The Mt. Pleasant Panther wrestling team hits the road tonight and travels to L&M High School for nonconference wrestling action. M.P. was idle over the weekend and last wrestled #2 ranked class 2A Mediapolis last Thursday and fell 60-15. Colten Mertens of the Panthers has moved into the rankings this week. He is ranked #8 at 126 pounds in Class 3A.

Ohio State rolled to the national championship in college football with a 42-20 win over Oregon in Dallas at the first ever College Football Playoff National Championship.
The Iowa Hawkeye men’s basketball team will play at Minnesota tonight at 8 p.m., The UNI Panthers play at Bradley. In women’s college basketball Iowa State plays at Baylor.
