The MPHS boys varsity basketball team won it’s 3rd game of the season on Saturday when they beat Central Lee on the Hawks home court 71-33.  M.P. jumped out to a 23-5 1st quarter lead and cruised behind the scoring of Brady Sartorius with 21 points and Spencer White with 18.
Panthers won the JV game also with 19 points each from Brody McGhgy and Jon Ita.
Tonight on their home court the Panthers will host Iowa City High a game postponed 1 week because of weather.  JV action begins at 5:30 and the varsity at 7 p.m.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the game live. 

The MPHS freshman boys basketball team defeated Burlington Saturday 55-48 after trailing 25-19 at halftime. Damion Lorenzo scored 21 and Jake Lowe added 12.

A lackluster 1st half of basketball cost the Mt. Pleasant Panther boys varsity team a win at Washington Friday night. The Demons led 11-6 at the end of the 1st quarter and 24-13 at halftime. In the 2nd half M.P. played better defense and handled the ball better and that allowed them to pull within 3 points of the Demons late in the game but it turned out to be too deep of a hole for the Panthers to dig out of. Brady Sartorius led the scoring with 15 points, Kieran Kohorst had 13 and Jordon Magnani 10.

Mt. Pleasant won the freshman game at Washington 67-47 led by Jake Lowe with 16 points. In the JV contest M.P. won 63-45, Maison Ashton had 15 points.
The Mt. Pleasant varsity girl’s basketball team continues to build steam as they move through the middle part of their season. Friday night MPHS won their 5th straight game by crushing rival Washington in Panther Gym 73-39. M.P. jumped out to a 27-11 1st quarter lead and never looked back. Hannah Becker scored 17 points, Kelsi Phipps addd 16 and Kalynn Batey added 14.

In the JV game Washington won 33-25, Mt. Pleasant won the fresh-soph game 29-25.


Things didn’t go well Saturday for the Iowa Wesleyan women’s and mens basketball teams when they played conference games in Louisville, Ky. at Spalding University.  The Tiger women fell out of a tie for 1st place in the SLIAC  when they lost 59-35, at halftime they trailed just 21-18 but were held to 7 points in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.   Kaylee Mosley scored 8 points to lead the Wesleyan in scoring.  The Tigers are 9-5 overall and 6-1 in the conference. 
In the mens game Wesleyan fell 64-51, Chris Fowler led the Tiger scoring with 17 points.  The Giers forced Wesleyan into numerous turnovers and used their heighth advantage to out rebound the Tigers. Iowa Wesleyan hosts Westminister College Wednesday night in a conference double header that will be heard live on KILJ-FM 105.5 and


Colten Mertens who wrestles at 126 pounds for the Mt. Pleasant panther wrestling team is ranked #8 at 126 pounds in the class 3A ranking released by predicament magazine.


The #1 Iowa Hawkeye wrestling team steam rolled over Oklahoma State Sunday 30-4, Hawks entertain Illinois Friday.

The #17 Iowa women’s basketball team beat Purdue Sunday 73-59.


Tonight is the night for the 1st College Football Playoff Championship game. Ohio St. will tangle with Oregon in Dallas. Both teams are 13-1 on the year. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Pairings are set for the NFC and AFC championship games in the NFL. Green Bay will play at Seattle in the NFC title game and Indianapolis will play at New England this weekend for the AFC title. Winners go onto the Super Bowl.


The Mt. Pleasant versus Solon girls basketball games that were to be played Monday January 5th have been rescheduled for Monday January 26th.  Fresh-Soph game begins at 4:30, followed by the JV and Varsity games. KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
