The 15th ranked Mt. Pleasant Panther girls basketball team celebrated parents night last night in a big way in Panther Gym. M.P. hosted Centerville and rolled over them in record breaking fashion 79-19. Shelby Allender set a single game record for 3 point field goals making 7, breaking the old record held by Taylor Shull from 2010. The team total of 11-3 pointers ties a school record also set in 2010. Kelsi Phipps got into double figures also with 14 points, Kalynn Batey scored 11. The 15-4 Panthers host Ottumwa Monday night.

The JV girls won over Centerville 52-15, Rylee Amos scored 21 points with 15 of them from 3 point field goals.

 

The Mt. Pleasant boys dug themselves a deep hole to climb out of in the 1st quarter of their game at Centerville falling behind 18-2, but by the time there was 4:31 left to play in the game they led 46-45. The Big Red hit their free throws down the stretch and were able to come back for the win. Leading M.P. in scoring was Brady Sartorius with 15 points and Colin Mulford contributed 14. Mt. Pleasant will travel to Ottumwa Monday night for non-conference action.

In the JV game Mt. Pleasant beat Centerville 45-36. The freshman game also was won by the Panthers 68-41, Damian Lorenzo scored 17 points, Jonathan Ita had 11 and Tanner Ruby added 10.

Mt. Pleasant High School wrestled at Keokuk Thursday night but not against the Chiefs. They wrestled North Scott and Muscatine.

North Scott defeated Mt. Pleasant High School in wrestling 56-16. Panthers winning matches: At 126 lbs.: Colten Mertens won by technical fall 19-4. 132 lbs.: Connor Eads won by technical fall 16-0. 145 lbs: Rob Pohren won by fall in 5:01.

Mt. Pleasant defeated Muscatine 46-29, winning matches: There was a double forfeit at 113 lbs. At 126 lbs.: Colten Mertens won a major decision 19-7, 132 lbs.: Connor Eads won by Fall in 3:16. 145 lbs.: Rob Pohren won by Fall in 3:51. 152 lbs.: Tyler Davis won by forfeit, 170 lbs.: Noah Brown won by Fall in 1:36. 182 lbs.: Clayton Perry won by forfeit. 220 lbs: Kallin Crile won by forfeit. 285 lbs.: Jackson Kelley won by Fall 1:40.

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade girls played Thursday at Burlington.

Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade boys played Edward Stone Thursday. In the “A” game Mt. Pleasant won 38-25, Rhett Zeglen scored 18 points, Grant Goody had 7 and Sam beatty 5. Mt. Pleasant won the “B” game 26-25, Riley McQuiggen scored 8 points. In the “C” game the Panthers won 24-1 over Edward Stone with Williie Banks scoring 8 points and Braden Denning 6.

 

Iowa defeated Michigan in men’s Big Ten basketball 72-54 on the Wolverines home floor. The Iowa women defeated Ohio State 73-65 in Carver Hawkeye. The #1 ranked Iowa wrestlers travel to Maryland for a dual tonight.

 

Class 1A and 2A high school wrestling teams compete in sectional wrestling tournaments Saturday.
1A teams from the KILJ listening area will compete at English Valley High School, besides the host school there will be Highland, Lone Tree, New London, Pekin, Waco, Wapello and Wilton.  The top two place winners in each class will advance onto the District next week at Wilton  The top two teams will advance onto regional team dual meet competition on Tuesday.  Teams that will compete in a sectional at North Cedar will make up the other half of the District.  Bellevue, Durant, Lisbon, Midland Wyoming, North Cedar, Iowa City Regina, Tipton and West Branch.
The 2A sectionals for area teams will be wrestled at Mediapolis with the Bulldogs, Columbus Community/WMU., Fairfield, L&M, Washington and West Burlington/Notre Dame/Danville.  The other sectional has Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Davis County, Knoxville, and PCM Monroe.  The District will be next Saturday at Fairfield.
Mt. Pleasant is in class 3A and they do not wrestle sectionals,  they will host a district Saturday February 14th in Panther Gym starting at noon.

 

 

 

SEI SUPER CONFERENCE GIRLS BASKETBALL “SHOOTOUT” GAMES ARE TO BE PLAYED SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2015.

The SEI Super Conference Girls Basketball “Shootout” games will pair the first place team in the North Division against the first place team in the South Division. Also, the second place teams in each division through the tenth place teams will play each other. In order to provide Winfield-MU with a game, Danville of the South Division will play Winfield-MU of the North Division as well as Highland since Maharishi of the South Division does not field a girls basketball team. All other games are to be played on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the South Division schools. A preliminary game between the JV teams of each school will begin at 6:00 PM with the varsity game to begin 20 minutes following the completion of the JV game.
