The #1 ranked MPHS boys basketball team won at Pella last night 72-62 in the varsity game. Brady Sartorius scored 30 points, Jordon Magnani added 14 and Kieran Kohorst 11. Panthers end the regular season with an 18-3 record, they open the tournament trail at home Monday February 19th hosting West Liberty at 8 pm.
M.P. won the JV game 79-74, Keegan Kohorst scored 21, Sam Beatty scored 14.
OTHER BOYS BASKETBALL: North Scott beat Burlington 75-34.
Mt. Pleasant hosted a state qualifying meet at the Iris Bowling Center Tuesday. MPHS boy’s bowling team placed 4th in state qualifier they hosted. North Scott won title and goes to state with a 3120 score, Keokuk was 2nd and will advance to state as an at large team. MPHS rolled a 2473 score led by Brandon Parton with a 395 series, high score for the day was rolled by North Scott’s Mitch Larson with a 461. In the girl’s division L&M won the team title and trip to state rolling a 2183 score.
In girl’s high school basketball tournament action last night, a game you heard on KILJ-FM and kilj.com was played in Winfield where Holy Trinity Catholic defeated the host Lady Wolves 53-38. Emily Box led HTC with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Winfield’s Lexi Hartsock had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. WMU ends the year with an 11-12 record, Holy Trinity advances to the regional semi-finals Friday at Montezuma to play the 10th ranked host school who defeated Waco last night 53-28, Waco ends the year with a 9-14 record, Montezuma is 18-3.
#3 ranked North Mahaska won 63-40 over BGM and Iowa Mennonite edged English Valleys 48-47, those winners will meet at New Sharon Friday night.
CLASS 2A REGIONAL ACTION:
Mediapolis defeated Van Buren on Bud McLearn court 67-60, the Bullettes were led by Helaina Hillyard with 21 points and Mackenzie Rogers with 20 points. Mediapolis now advances onto the Regional Semi Fibnals on their home floor Friday night against Danville who came from behind to beat Sigourney 48-43, Grace Grothe scored 15 points and Alyssa Pfadenhauer added 13. Both Danville and Mediapolis have records of 19-4.
Mt. Pleasant opens up their tournament trail tonight at Southeast Conference foe Keokuk. The two teams have split in their meetings this year, each team won on the visitor’s floor so hopefully the Panthers can win again in Wright Field House like they did back on December 8th when MPHS won 42-36. Keokuk won in Panther Gym 44-31 back on January 19th. The Panthers had their 5 game winning streak stopped Monday night at Ottumwa so Coach Watson hopes his team can begin the second season on a winning note. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the battle live beginning at 7 pm. The winner of this game advances to the semifinals at Fairfield against the Lady Trojans on Saturday night.

The Iowa Wesleyan women and men host Eureka in the final home games of the season. The Tiger women are now 4-18 overall and 4-10 in SLIAC play, their game begins at 6 pm. Iowa Wesleyan men are now 5-18 overall and 5-11 in SLIAC play, the men’s battle is set to begin at 8 pm.
Brock Butler has picked up his second Student-Athlete of the Month award after having a stellar month on the court for the Tigers. In the nine games played by Iowa Wesleyan in January, Butler recorded five games with over 30 points, including a career high 46 points against Blackburn College. Butler finished the month averaging 29.8 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game. He also shot nearly fifty percent from the field, ending the month with a 48.4 shooting percent. Butler poured in 37 three pointers for the month of January, knocking down six in two games, once against Fontbonne and another against Spalding. He finished the month with a 41.6 three point shooting percentage. His performance during the month of January helped the Tigers pick up three wins.

“A” game: Mt Pleasant 31 (record 8-0)
“B” game: Fairfield 21
Mt Pleasant 16 (6-2)
Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade boys played at Fairfield. In the “A” game Mt. Pleasant won 50-46, Dewon Trent scored 19, Sam Jerrel 17 and Reece Kempker 14.
In the “B” game M.P. won 11-5, Tyler Gardner scored 5 and Dalton Church 4 points.
