Boy’s Class 1A District basketball last night saw Holy trinity Catholic defeat Winfield Mt. Union 60-50 in Shottenkirk Gymnasium in Ft. Madison.  The Crusaders had a run just before halftime outscoring the Wolves 11-0 and built up a lead of 27-19 at halftime and WMU could just not cut very deep into that lead in the 2nd half.  Quentin Schneider scored 17 points to lead the Holy Trinity scoring, Cody McCreight of WMU scored 15 points and B.J. Rodgers put up 13 points.  HTC advances to the next round of the District Thursday night at Iowa Mennonite School with a record of 5-17.  Winfield Mt. Union ends the season 3-19.

Class 2A District play started also at Central Lee High School with a double header.  In the 1st game Van Buren defeated Mediapolis 49-40, the Warriors were led by Brycen Starnes with 10 points.  Mediapolis was led in scoring by Ben Wolgemuth with 17 points.  The Bulldogs end the year 9-12, Van Buren goes to play at Wapello Thursday in the Semi-Finals against the Indians with an 11-10 record.

In the 2nd game host school Central Lee defeated Columbus Community 78-52, the Hawks jumped out to a 23-9 lead after one quarter and coasted home to their 17th win of the season against 5 losses.  Columbus Community ends the year 0-22.  Central Lee goes to West Burlington Thursday for a Semi-Final game against the Falcons.


The Mt. Pleasant Panther girls played at Ottumwa last night to end the regular season. In the varsity game Ottumwa won 65-54, M.P. was led by Maddie Williamson with 23 and Kalynn Batey scored 12.  Panthers end the regular season with an 11-10 record and go to Keokuk tomorrow night for 1st round Class 4A Regional play.

Mt. Pleasant won the JV game 42-38, Ottumwa won the freshman game 34-22.


The #1 ranked MPHS boys rolled over Ottumwa during senior night 72-48, Brady Sartorius put up 28 points, Kieran Kohorst had 15 and Jordon Magnani 12.  The 17-3 Panthers travel to Pella tonight to finish up the regular season, JV game is at 5:30 pm and the varsity agame at 7.  KILJ-FM will have score updates during our girl’s regional basketball broadcast.


It’s tournament time for the MPHS girls and boys bowling teams, they are hosting a state qualifying meet at the Iris Bowling Center at 11 am this morning.  Pin Pals Bowling League will not be bowling today because of the tournament.

Girl’s Class 1A regional tournament action tonight has Holy Trinity Catholic playing at Winfield Mt. union at 7 pm.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the action live beginning at 7 pm.  During our broadcast we will also keep you on top of the action at Montezuma where the Waco Warrior girls play at 7 pm.

Class 2A regional play has Van Buren at Mediapolis, we will have score updates on that action also.  Danville goes to Sigourney tonight for quarterfinal action also.  Wapello goes to Iowa City Regina to play.
