Play began in girl’s class 1A Regional basketball last night. On KILJ you heard the New London Tigers squeak out a 53-52 win at home against the Winfield Mt. Union Lady Wolves. Morgan Christner led the Tigers in scoring with 15 points and 8 rebounds, Frankie Johnson added 10. Karlie Wade drained 5 3-point field goals on her way to a 27 point night. WMU ends the season 3-19, the 11-11 Tigers now advance onto the next round against defending state champion and #1 ranked Burlington Notre Dame on the Nikes home floor Tuesday night.
Waco advances down the tournament trail after beating Tri-County last night in Wayland 59-27, Aaliyah Brown had 19 points, Erika Leichty added 13 and Gabi Wagler 12. Waco is now 15-7 and play at Keota Tuesday night against IMS who upset Keota 38-29.
Holy Trinity Catholic crushed Harmony in 1st round Regional play in Ft. Madison 66-9, Abby Boeding had 18 points for the Crusaders, Tessa Story had 4 points to lead the Rocketts who end the year with a 1-22 record. Holy Trinity plays host to Van Buren Tuesday in the next round, the Warriors beat Moulton-Udell 53-28. Sigourney won over Lone Tree 40-34, they will play Tuesday at English Valleys.
Class 2A & 3A 1st round games begin tomorrow night with Danville at Wapello and West Burlington at Columbus Community at 7 p.m.
Class 3A has #1 ranked Mediapolis hosting L&M Saturday, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry that game live. Davis County plays at Central Lee.
SEI SUPER CONFERENCE BOYS BASKETBALL “SHOOTOUT” GAMES ARE TO BE PLAYED FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2015
“Shootout” games will pair the first place team in the North Division against the first place team in the South Division. Also, the second place teams in each division through the tenth place teams will play each other. All games are to be played on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the North Division schools with the exception of the 2nd place teams, Highland of the North Division vs. Notre Dame of the South Division will be played at Southeast Community College at 6:00 PM and the 1st place teams, Lone Tree of the North Division vs. Danville of the South Division will be played beginning 20 minutes after completion of the first game. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry that championship battle live beginning at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

It’s been a very good season for the Mt. Pleasant Panther girls varsity basketball team. The Panthers have won 16 games and lost 4 overall and have won 5 games and lost 2 in the Southeast Conference, and they avenged both of those league losses in the second swing through the league. Tonight Mt. Pleasant travels to Washington to wrap up the regular season and are assured of placing in no worse than a tie for 2nd in the league and have an outside chance of tying for 1st in the league with Fairfield if they should lose to Ft. Madison.
Washington is winless in the league at 0-7 and have a 6-14 overall mark. KILJ will have score updates during our broadcast of the Super Conference Shoot Out Championship game.
The Panther boys wrap up the conference competition hosting the Washington Demon boys. Panthers are 6-13 overall and (2-5) in the conference. The Demons are 1-5 in the conference and 5-11 overall. Washington won over Mt. Pleasant earlier in the year on their home floor, M.P. is going to try and protect their home floor tonight and capture a 3rd place finish in the league. KILJ will have score updates during our Super Conference Championship Shootout broadcast.

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade boys played at Ottumwa Thursday.
In the “A” game Ottumwa won 39-37, Rhett Zeglen had 14 points, Tucker Johnson and Chase lamm each added 9. In the “B” game M.P. beat Ottumwa 24-11, Riley McQiggen and Roberto Carrillo each had 6 points. The “C” game Mt. Pleasant won 23-4, Braden Denning scored 8 points and Thadd Brooks had 5.
The Iowa Hawkeye men’s team continues to be inconsistent. The Hawks lost at home against Minnesota last night 64-59, it was the 1st road game the Gophers have won in the Big Ten this season.
The Iowa women’s basketball team won at Nebraska 69-61 for the 1st time since 2005.
