Due to the weather several tournament and regular season basketball games have been postponed or cancelled. In the KILJ listening area:
-Class 1A, Cardinal at Winfield-Mt Union is postponed to tomorrow at 5pm
-Class 2A, Columbus Community at Wapello postponed to tomorrow at 8pm
-Class 2A, Danville vs Central Lee at Mid-Prairie Wellman postponed to tomorrow at 5pm
-Class 2A, West Burlington at Mid-Prairie Wellman postponed to tomorrow at 6:30pm
-Class 2A, Davis County at Van Buren postponed to tomorrow at 6:30pm
-Mt Pleasant boys basketball vs Iowa City Regina is cancelled
-Waco at Holy Trinity boys basketball is cancelled
Mt Pleasant basketball hosted Indianola on Saturday for a double header. In the girls game the Indians won 54-44, Maddie Williamson led the Panthers with 11 points. The girls regular season is over, Panthers end up with a 6-14 overall record and will play their first tournament game on Wednesday at Clear-Creek Amana. In the boys game Indianola won 68-48, Sam Beatty led the team with 23 points. The boys team still has 2 regular season games to play at home against Iowa City Regina and Pella.
Girls Basketball Regional Results:
-Winfield-Mt Union won at Waco over the Warriors 45-35 on Friday. Wolves advance to play at Sigourney tomorrow night.
-Burlington Notre Dame defeated New London 60-39 on Saturday. Nikes will play at Holy Trinity against the Crusaders tomorrow.
-In Class 2A Danville traveled up to Durant and came home with a 47-45 win. Bears move on to play tomorrow night at Mediapolis.
-Central Lee hosted West Liberty in the first round of Class 3A. Lady Hawks won 64-44 and will play on Wednesday night in Panther Gym against West Burlington.
-West Burlington defeated Louisa-Muscatine 61-47.
Iowa Wesleyan basketball hosted Greenville University on Saturday for a conference double header. In the women’s game Greenville won 99-59. Allie Massner led the Tigers with 17 points and 9 rebounds, Da’Jaah Swolley had 4 assists. Tigers shot 37% from the floor, 29% on three pointers, and 80% on free throws. The team falls to 5-16 overall and 3-11 in conference games.
In the men’s game Greenville won 128-125 in a close game. Jarryd Fernandes had a career game scoring his personal high of 51 points and broke the Iowa Wesleyan record for field goals made in a game with 21. Austin Rebel had 15 rebounds and Jake Neubauer had 9 assists. Tigers shot 55% from the floor, 14% on three pointers, and 56% on free throws. The team is now 6-17 overall and 4-12 in conference play. Coming up on Wednesday night the Tigers will play their final home game of the season against Fontbonne.
Keokuk High School swept the Southeast Conference boys and girls bowling championships at Arrowhead Bowl in Keokuk Friday. The Chiefs’ boys won the team title with 2,923 pins and was followed by Fairfield (2,799) and Mount Pleasant (2,081). The Keokuk girls coasted to the team title with 2,585 pins. Mount Pleasant took second at 1,983. Mount Pleasant’s Alexis Wohlleber won the girls individual championship, she had games of 167 and 194 for a 361 series. Levi Mills led the Panther boys team with games of 163 and 180 for a 343 series.
