The Mt. Pleasant High School boys and girls basketball teams will be in action tonight after having the weekend off from play. The Panther boys coming off a Thursday night loss at Centerville will be traveling to play Ottumwa, there will be freshman, JV and varsity games. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The 15th ranked Panther girls are staying home and playing Ottumwa in Panther Gym, M.P. is coming off a win last Thursday over Centerville, KILJ will have score updates during our live boy’s broadcast.
The MPHS bowling teams bowled at Muscatine Saturday in a tournament. The girls finished 3rd and the boys 4th. Panthers go back to Muscatine for a dual today, bowl against Keokuk Thursday and will host the Southeast Conference meet on Saturday.
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference girl’s basketball championship game was won by #1 ranked class 3A Mediapolis over #1 ranked defending class 1A state champion Burlington Notre Dame 84-67 Saturday night on the Nikes home court. Andrea Larson led the Bullettes with 32 points and Darby Massner hit for 25. Taylor Hickey scored 18 for Notre Dame.
The Iowa Wesleyan College Tiger basketball teams swept Webster College in Ruble Arena Saturday. The Lady Tigers won 44-43 led by Lauren Grubb with 16 points, her 2 free throws with 3 seconds left in the game were the winning points.
The Tiger men won 67-63, Elijah Johnson scored 16 points and had 9 rebounds.
Class 1A and 2A Sectional wrestling action took place Saturday. New London advances 4 wrestlers to the 1A district…Samuel Loyd, Reno Chiri, Tyler Mettler and Avery Jacobs. Waco advances 2 wrestlers, Alfredo Delacruz and Joshua Shumaker.
New London finished 3rd in the team scoring and Waco 7th.
Mediapolis won the 2A sectional they hosted sending 10 wrestlers onto the District, and the team will host a regional team dual meet Tuesday. Bulldogs will wrestle Knoxville in the semi finals, Washington will wrestle Albia. The winners will then meet to determine the state team dual meet qualifier.
Sunday was a good day for the Iowa Hawkeye sports programs. The Hawkeye men’s basketball team won their 1,000th game in Carver Hawkeye Arena with a impressive 71-55 win over #17 ranked Maryland, Iowa is now 15-8, Aaron White led the scoring with 17 points.
The #1 ranked Iowa Hawkeye wrestling team went to #5 Penn State and won a dual by a score of 18-12, Iowa can clinch the title outright with a win at home on Friday night against Michigan.
The 16th ranked Iowa women’s basketball team beat Wisconsin 87-75, Samantha Logic hit for 30 points.
The UNI wrestling team won over Kent State 21-16.
Southern Illinois defeated the UNI women in basketball 79-75.
Reschedule plan for Mt. Pleasant High School and Middle School games weathered out Monday February 2nd.
Middle School basketball games will move to the February the 20th same sites and times.
JV girl’s game cancelled.
JV boy’s game will move to the 12th at 7:00 in high school gym.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Regional Tournament games for the 1A-2A and 3A teams in the area kick off this week. Class 1A tourney opens up Thursday February 12th when Winfield Mt. Union plays at New London at 7 p.m. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast that game live. Waco plays host to Tri County on the 12th, Harmony Plays at Holy Trinity Catholic and Moulton-Udell plays at Van Buren on February 12th.
Class 2A 1st round games has Danville at Wapello and West Burlington at Columbus Community on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Class 3A has #1 ranked Mediapolis hosting L&M on February 14th KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry that game live. Davis County plays at Central Lee Saturday.
