The #14 Mt. Pleasant Panther girls basketball team has been assigned to Region 4 in the upcoming tournament trail.  M.P. will open at home on 2/18 against Clear Creek-Amana a team with a 9-8 record.  The two teams have played similar opponents with similar results.  CC-A beat Williamsburg 59-29 and plays them again Tuesday night.  Mt. Pleasant beat them 53-40.  Clear Creek beat Solon 55-43 a team the Panthers beat 51-42.  The winner of the Panther-Clipper game will then travel to #9 Cedar Rapids Xavier on 2/21.  A win there would put them in the regional final at DeWitt 2/24 against Ft. Madison, Keokuk or #8 Davenport North who play in the top part of the bracket.  Ft. Madison plays at Keokuk in the 1st round, Davenport North hosts the winner.

 

Mt. Pleasant High School girl’s basketball team hosts Iowa City West tonight, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the game live. The women of Troy are 15-2 on the season, the 14th ranked Panthers are 14-3. Mikaela Morgan 5’11” senior leads the West scoring with 14 points a game followed by Dani Craig with 12.

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released their Player of the Week winner. This week, Rachel Williams of Iowa Wesleyan College picked up her first SLIAC Player of the Week honor for her play against Spalding University and Blackburn College.

Williams led her team to a big conference win against Spalding, giving the Golden Eagles their first conference loss of the season. In the game, Williams led all scorers with 24 point 7-8 from the field and also had three steals and five assists. She came back the next game and added 16 points, eight assists, and six rebounds against Blackburn College. Williams’ averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and shooting 77.8 percent from the field on the week.

 

Reschedule plan for Mt. Pleasant High School and Middle School games weathered out Monday February 2nd.
Middle School basketball games will move to the February the 20th same sites and times.
JV girl’s game cancelled.
JV boy’s game will move to the 12th at 7:00 in high school gym.

 

#8 Kansas beat 11th ranked Iowa State in men’s basketball 89-76. The UNI Panther men play basketball at Indiana State tonight.
