The 14th ranked Mt. Pleasant High School girl’s basketball team picked up a pair of wins this past weekend. Saturday afternoon they rolled over Burlington 69-37, Kelsi Phipps scored 15 points and Natalie Ita scored 13. The physical contest led to M.P. shooting 47 free throws.

Friday night on their home court the Panther girls rolled over conference foe Ft. Madison 55-17. Kelsi Phipps scored 13 points, Natalie Ita had 11.

The MPHS freshman team beat Ft. Madison 37-21 and the JV won 41-21.

Mt. Pleasant hosts Iowa City West Tuesday night, KILJ-FM 105.5 and will broadcast the game live.


The MPHS boys basketball team traveled to Burlington Saturday and handed the Grayhounds their 15th loss of the season 47-38, Panthers led 9-5 after one quarter but trailed at halftime 16-13, game was tied 24 all heading into the 4th period and then the Panthers defense and free throw shooting kicked in to build the margin of victory.

Brady Sartorius scored 17 points, Dshundric Foster and Jordon Magnani scored 10 each.

Friday night Mt. Pleasant battled hard against 8th ranked Ft. Madison in the HoundDome in a Southeast Conference boys game and suffered 61-44 loss. Leading Mt. Pleasant offensively was Jordon Magnani with 12.

Mt. Pleasant won the freshman game 73-40, Jake Lowe hit for 16 points, Jonathan Ita, Payton Kelly and Tanner Ruby each had 12.

The Panther JV beat Ft. Madison 46-36, Kincaid Mitchell had 15 points.

MPHS freshman, JV and varsity boys go to Centerville Thursday for nonconference action.


Mt. Pleasant finished in a tie for 8th with Fairfield at the Southern Iowa Wrestling Classic held at Fairfield Saturday which also serves as the Southeast Conference Tournament. M.P. scored 77.5 points, 4th ranked Colten Mertens finished as a runnerup at 126 lbs. and Jackson Kelly finished 3rd at 285 lbs. for the Panthers best finishes. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont won the tournament with 194 points. M.P. wrestles at Keokuk Thursday.

Mediapolis won the Southeast Iowa Super conference wrestling tournament with 246 points and 5 champions. Columbus Community/WMU finished 2nd with 184.5 points. New London was 5th, Waco was 12th.

Bettendorf won the Mississippi Athletic Conference wrestling tournament with 284 points, Burlington was 6th with 127.5 points.


Mt. Pleasant split a Southeast Conference Bowling dual with Fairfield Saturday. The Lady Trojans won the girls match 2446-2314. Jacque Gerleman rolled a 312 series. Mt. Pleasant boys bowling team remained undefeated with a 3176-2683 win, Brock Palar had a 457 series.


Iowa Wesleyan College women’s basketball team hosted Blackburn College in a conference matchup Saturday and won 95-38.  The Tigers had several players step up in the absence of their leading scorer, Karla Vieitinghoff who is nursing a knee injury. 

Whitney Godden was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 23 points, Lauren Grubb had a big game off the bench with 20 points.

Iowa Wesleyan will return to action Wednesday as they take on Westminster College.  Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Fulton, MO.

The Tiger men’s basketball team picked up a 75-55 win over Blackburn in the 2nd game of the double header.

Will Stephenson had a double-double for the purple and white 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Dion Lightner was just shy of the double-double mark with 13 points and 7 rebounds. C.J. Singletary added 11 points off the bench for the Tigers.

Next game for the Tiger men is right after the women’s game Wednesday at Westminster College. 


Southeastern Community College men beat Kankakee 77-65 Saturday night at home, Michael Soukup had 18 points and his brother Steven hit for 14.

The #18 UNI men beat #12 Wichita State 70-54 in Cedar Falls.

Wisconsin beat the Iowa men 74-63 in Carver Hawkeye arena. Iowa State crushed TCU in Ames 83-66, tonight they play Kansas and KILJ-AM 1130 will carry the game live at 7:30 p.m.
