Durant the #12 ranked Class 2A girls basketball team handed the Class 4A Mt. Pleasant Panthers a 60-34 defeat feat on the road Monday night.  M.P. was down 11-8 at the end of the 1st quarter, but had a bad 2nd quarter and the Wildcats led 26-11 and then were outscored 20-8 in the 3rd period.  Kalynn Batey scored 8 points to lead Mt. Pleasant offensively, Riley Amos added 6, D’Jannay Patterson and Sarah Moffett each had 5.  Panthers will play at #7 ranked conference foe Keokuk Friday night for their next game.

In the JV game MPHS beat Durant 31-28 and the freshman team brought home 39-27 win.

MPHS boys who are 1-1 play host to 1-1 Cedar Rapids Prairie in non-conference action tonight.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the varsity game live beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade girls played basketball at Fairfield last night.

Mt. Pleasant 7th grade boys hosted Fairfield.  In the “A” game MPMS won 55-12, Chase Williamson scored 19 points, Brevin Wilson had 10 and Mitchell Moothart scored 9.  The “B” team lost 18-16, Luke Fraise and Blaine Bowman each had 4 points.  Fairfield won the “C” game 16-7.

 

The Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has released their Basketball player of the week honors for last week’s games.  Rachel Williams of Iowa Wesleyan received the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor after helping the Tigers win three games last week by leading the team in scoring.

On the week, Iowa Wesleyan defeated two conference opponents and one non-conference team.  Williams averaged 23.5 points in the three contests while shooting 50 percent from the field.  She also averaged six rebounds and 2.3 steals and assists on the week.  In the Tiger win against Fontbonne, Williams recorded 29 points which is her highest point total of the season.

 

Chris Fowler of the Tiger men’s team received notable mention honors in the player of the week honors after helping the men’s basketball team pick up two wins last week.  In the wins, Fowler averaged 23.5 points and 10.0 assists per game and also shot 63 percent from the field.  Fowler also received another honor, D3Hoops has selected Chris Fowler as a member of their team of the week.  Each week, D3Hoops selects top performers at each position from the previous week to make up their team of the week honors.
