The Mt. Pleasant Panther girls basketball teams travel to 12th ranked class 2A Durant tonight to play non-conference basketball. This freshman-JV and varsity triple header is a makeup for games weathered out earlier this year. M.P. is 0-2 after losing to #6 ranked Fairfield Friday in Panther Gym by a score of 58-35, Kalynn Batey led the M.P. scoring with 11 points. Durant won Friday night over North Cedar 73-41 to improve their record to 2-2. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry tonight’s varsity game beginning at 7 p.m. Freshman teams play at 4:30, followed by the JV, then varsity.
The MPHS boys team Friday night evened their record at 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Southeast Conference with a 63-55 win at Fairfield, Brady Sartorius scored 19 points. Panther boys next action is at home Tuesday night against Cedar Rapids Prairie.
The Mt. Pleasant Panther wrestling team finished 5th in the Wapello wrestling Tournament Saturday with 107 points, Colten Mertens was champion at 145 pounds.
Mt. Pleasant High School dance and drill teams were in state competition Saturday and brought home Division I ratings for both teams.
Iowa Wesleyan women and men hosted Fontbonne University in basketball Saturday. The Tiger women won 88-67, the Tiger men won 91-80.
Michigan State scored the winning touchdown in the closing seconds of the Big Ten Championship football game Saturday night to escape with a 16-13 win. Hawks will now play in the Rose Bowl January 1st against Stanford.
UNI Panthers won their FCS playoff game over Portland State Saturday on the road 29-17, UNI goes to North Dakota State for next round this Saturday.
Iowa Hawkeye basketball team beat the University of Missouri Kansas City team 95-75 Saturday afternoon, Michael Soukup former Danville Bear had 3 points for the Hawks.
