Mt. Pleasant went to Centerville last night and brought home 3 basketball victories. In the varsity game the Panthers won 63-44, a great defensive effort throughout the game stymied the Big Red and held them to just 30 field goal attempts. M.P. led 23-8 after one quarter, 38-20 at halftime and 52-32 going into the 4th quarter. Brady Sartorius l;ed the Panther scoring with 17 points, Jordon Magnani added 16 and Colin Mulford 14. At the Christmas break MPHS is 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the Southeast Conference. They host West Burlington January 2nd to open the 2016 portion of the season. In the JV game Mt. Pleasant scored a 54-49 win and the freshman boys won 40-29 with Rhett Zeglen and Sam Beatty each getting 11 points.

This week’s Associated Press Iowa Boys High School basketball poll. Iowa City West #1 in Class 4A. Pella leads 3A, Western Christian Hull tops the 2A field. Gladbrook-Reinbeck is #1 in Class 1A, the 6-0 Danville Bears are #3.

Mt. Pleasant girls varsity basketball team who has not won a game yet this season, is hoping Christmas comes a little early for them and they get a gift of a victory tonight when they travel to Davis County to play the Mustangs who are 1-5. Kalynn Batey leads Mt. Pleasant in scoring at 9 points per game, Sarah Moffett and D’Jannay Patterson average 8 points a game. Davis County owns a win over Twin Cedars but has lost their other 5 games. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the varsity game live at 7:30 p.m. The freshman teams of the two schools play at 4:45 and the JV game will follow.

Ross Pierschbacher a redshirt freshman offensive lineman for Alabama is the nephew of Earl and Dorothy Reynolds of Mt. Pleasant. He prepped at Cedar Falls High School, was recruited by Iowa, but chose the Crimson Tide.
