Mt. Pleasant High School varsity girl’s basketball fell at home to Central Lee Saturday by a score of 57-52. Sarah Moffett scored 15 points to lead 3 players in double figures for M.P., Kalynn Batey added 13 and D’Jannay Patterson 11. M.P. JV won over Central Lee 56-36, Maddie Williamson scored 22 points. Tomorrow night Mt. Pleasant travels to Davis County for non-conference action.
Friday night the MPHS varsity girls lost to Ft. Madison 34-32, KaLynn Batey led the scoring with 10 points and Sarah Moffett hit 9, The Panther JV won 32-30.
Mt. Pleasant swept all 3 basketball games played at Ft. Madison Friday night. M.P. freshman won 59-55, Jacob Stukerjurgen scored 13 points. The Panther JV won 58-50, Rhett Zeglen scored 14. Brady Sartorius stole the ball with 2.8 seconds left and scored a layup to give the MPHS varsity a 50-48 win. Brady led all scorers with 21 and Jonathan Ita dropped in 20. Tonight Mt. Pleasant travels to Centerville to play non-conference basketball, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Colten Mertens brought home the 145 pound championship from the Iowa City Regina Wrestling Tournament. The Panthers were 7th in the team standings with 98 points, Mt. Vernon won the team title with 212 points. Brandon Ackles finished 2nd for M.P. at 106 lbs.
New London had 1 champ at the Ft. Madison Tournament, Javis Krieger won the 113 lb. class, the Tiger team finished 8th, Clinton won the team title. Waco’s wrestling team finished 6th at the English Valleys Tournament that was won by the Cedar Rapids Jefferson JV team. Mediapolis won 4 of 5 duals they wrestled at Cedar Rapids Xavier. Bulldogs beat West Liberty, Marion, Anamosa and Xavier. They lost to Dubuque Hempstead.
The MPHS bowling teams bowled at conference foe Fairfield Saturday. The Panther girls were defeated 2545 to 2368. High roller for Mt. Pleasant was Maddie Kirchner with a 357.
The M.P. boys team beat Fairfield 2950 to 2815, Jacob Swailes rolled a 441 to lead the Panthers to victory. The Mt. Pleasant girls are now 5-3 while the boys team is 7-1.
Former Holy Trinity Catholic High School volleyball standout Mikaela Foecke was named the outstanding player in the NCAA women’s volleyball championships after she recorded 19 kills in the Nebraska Cornhuskers 3 game sweep of Texas in the championship match played in Omaha Saturday night. Foecke just completed her freshman season.
UNI upset Iowa State 81-79 in the Big-4 Classic played in Des Moines Saturday, Cyclones were ranked 5th in the country. Iowa downed Drake 70-64 in the other Classic matchup.
