Iowa Wesleyan opened SLIAC conference action on their home floor against MacMurray College last night in a women’s and men’s double header. The Tiger women came out in their first home game of the season and were able to get a 67-50 victory over the Highlanders to start the conference season off on a high note.  Three Tiger players reached double figures in the win.

Darby Massner a freshman from Mediapolis opened the game up with two three pointers, the second of which put the Tigers up 6-3.

Iowa Wesleyan was led in scoring by Rachel Williams who finished the night with 18 points and four assists.  Dakota Flesner had a good night for the Tigers as well, she ended the game just shy of a double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds and also added four assists.  Kaylee Moseley added 15 points for IW.

The Tigers will have a short turn around as they will play again at home tonight.  They will host Viterbo University at 6 pm for a non-conference matchup.


In the second game of a conference double header night, the men’s basketball team took on MacMurray College in Ruble Arena.  The Tigers held on to get a 84-80 win in a game that saw fifteen ties and twenty lead changes.  Chris Fowler led all scorer’s with 24 points in the Tiger victory. Marquis Jones added 15 points on 5-7 shooting and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. CJ Singletary added 12 points off the bench for the Tigers.  Wesleyan will return to action on Saturday, December 5th. They will host Fontbonne University at 3 pm following the women’s game at 1 pm.


The Iowa men’s basketball team came from behind to win at home against Florida State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge game 78-75 in overtime last night.  Peter Jok led the Hawks to victory with 24 points, Adam Woodbury had a double-double hitting 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  Hawks play the University of Missouri Kansas City Saturday KILJ-FM will carry the game beginning at 1 p.m.  Followed immediately by the Iowa football game against Michigan State at 5:15.


Tonight is a big night of high school wrestling in the area: The Mt. Pleasant Panthers will open their season on the road tonight at Columbus Community/Winfield Mt. Union, Panthers are led by Colton Mertens who is ranked #7 in the state at 145 pounds.   Burlington and Pleasant Valley wrestle at Davenport Central, West Burlington/Notre Dame/Danville, Van Buren and West Hancock are at New London, Davenport Assumption at Mediapolis, Keokuk, Davis County and Fairfield at Centerville


There is a big basketball game this Friday in Panther Gym when the MPHS girls host #5 ranked Fairfield. In order to get ready the Panther players are having a team meal today after practice.  Roger and Dale Beckman from Breadeaux Pizza are being so generous as to supply the pizzas for the meal.
