Cedar Rapids Xavier came to Panther Gymnasium to play JV and varsity boys basketball last night and took home two wins.  In the varsity game they won 61-28, jumping out to a 14-5 1st quarter lead, 30-13 at halftime and 44-19 after 3 quarters.  Mt. Pleasant had a very cold shooting night, the Saints defense had a lot to do with that, 4 players scored 6 points to be the leading scorers for M.P.  Jordon Magnani, Kieran Kohorst, Colin Mulford and Tanner Ruby.  The Panthers will play Friday night at Southeast Conference foe Fairfield in the next outing.

Xavier won the JV game 56-27, two freshmen led the scoring for M.P.  Rhett Zeglen had 8 points and Tucker Johnson 7.

The MPHS girls and boys bowling teams will open up their season tonight as they will bowl in Muscatine against L&M High School.

 

The Mt. Pleasant High School wrestling team has 1 wrestler ranked in the pre-season statewide rankings.  Senior Colten Mertens is ranked 7th in the state at 145 pounds, the Panther wrestling team opens their season Saturday at the Willard Howell Wapello Tournament.

 

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the tournament assignments for the post season.  Mt. Pleasant high School will wrestle at the  Burlington 3A district February 13th, here is the field of teams competing:

Class 1A and 2A have sectional wrestling tournaments on February 6th.  The 1A wrestling teams will wrestle in the sectional at New London against Highland, Lone Tree, L&M, Regina of Iowa city, Waco, Wapello and Wilton.  The top two wrestlers at each weight class advance onto the district the following Saturday at Wilton.

The 2A sectional will be at Mediapolis with Columbus Community/Winfield Mt. Union, Fairfield, Mid Prairie, Washington and West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville.  The top two place winners advance onto the district February 13th at Clear Creek-Amana.

 

 

 

There is a big  basketball game this Friday IN Panther Gym when the MPHS girls host #5 ranked Fairfield. In order to get ready the Panther players are having a team meal this Thursday after practice.  Roger and Dale Beckman from Breadeaux Pizza are being so generous as to supply the pizzas for the meal.
