FROM THE IRIS BOWLING CENTER AND SPLITZ LOUNGE SPORTS DESK.

It’s time for fall sports practices to begin today.  Football, Cross Country and Volleyball athletes will begin preparing for the 2016 season.  The MPHS varsity football team is looking to make a big jump forward, the Panthers the last two years have a record of 1-17, they open at home August 26th against Clear Creek-Amana, then go on the road September 2nd to Mediapolis.  Arch rival Washington will be the 1st district game and that will be on Evans Field September 10th.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the Panther games live each week.

The MPHS volleyball team had an 11-20 record last fall and finished 3rd in the Southeast Conference.  They will open at home August 23rd against Ottumwa.

The MPHS Cross Country teams look to have a good fall.  The boy’s team finished 8th at the State Meet last fall with the individual champion Logan Murray and many other experienced runners returning that will make M.P. a team to beat in this area and at state.  The Panther girls’ team also has some returning runners that will make them stronger this season.  The Panthers open at Williamsburg on August 30th.

The Iowa Hawkeye football team held their media day on Saturday, KILJ’s Koehler Wendt attended and visited with a number of players.  Today on KILJ sportscast you can hear tight end Ceorge Kittle and linebacker coach Seth Wallace.

The New London Masonic Lodge golf tourney scheduled for July 30th has been postponed to August 13th at the Deerwood Golf Course in New London, get your team signed up today by contacting the Deerwood Golf Course.
