Iowa Wesleyan University will be welcoming their 2016 football team to campus next week, it’s going to be their largest team number wise since back in the 1970’s.  Mike Richtman will greet the team as their new head football coach.

Richtman began as an assistant football coach with the program in 2013 and an instructor in the teacher education program in 2014.  He has served in such capacities as a special team’s coordinator and both offensive and defensive line coach.  In addition, Richtman served as the academic liaison for the team as they instituted an academic program aimed at ensuring student- athletes kept academics as their top priority.

Coach Richtman will have the help of assistant coaches Joe Stubbs in his 9th year with the Tigers and Dave Lukens in his 6th year as an assistant.

In addition to Richtman’ s collegiate football coaching experience, he brings 14 years of experience coaching high school football in Minnesota.

A native of Trempealeau, Wisconsin, Richtman is a 1997 graduate of Saint Mary’s University in Minnesota and obtained a Masters of Arts in Instruction from Saint Mary’s in 1999. Richtman and his wife Meg have three children.

 

Former Mediapolis High School wrestler Cole Erickson has decided to transfer from the University of Iowa to Coe College in Cedar Rapids.  Erickson wrestled his freshman redshirt season last year at Iowa and had a record of 11-6 in open tournaments.

Two other Mediapolis wrestlers have announced their future plans.  Luke Erickson, Coles younger brother will attend North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City to wrestle and Shea Swafford will wrestle for Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa.
