The MPHS volleyball team will have a new head coach this season, Mark Cremer stepped down after leading the team just one season.  Just recently named to head the program is Dave Streeter, he will begin practicing with the team soon and prepare for the season opener August 29th when the Panthers travel to East Union to play Chariton in the 1st round of a tournament at 9 a.m.  Panthers have a scrimmage scheduled with Mediapolis on the 17th of this month and will open conference play with Fairfield on the road Thursday September 3rd.  The 1st home action for M.P. will be September 8th hosting Washington.

Jean Caboth and Mitch Anderson will once again lead the Mt. Pleasant High School cross country teams.  Both squads have worked hard this summer putting in many miles of conditioning.  The Panthers open at Williamsburg Tuesday September 1st.  The Panther home meet will be September 22nd at the Threshers Camp Grounds with 20 teams in 2 classes and Middle School events also.

Lee County Fair, re-scheduled Illinois Farm Pullers Association Pulls and Local Truck Pulls are scheduled for this Saturday, August 8th at 6pm.

The Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club will again play host to their annual Riverview Games.   The free, family-friendly event has become an annual end of summer ritual for many in the Fort Madison and North Lee County area. From the 4-on-4 adult sand volleyball tournament to the ending awards ceremony, adults and children alike are bound to have a good time.

NEW in 2015 is the expanded obstacle course. Kids will crawl through tubes, walk across a balance beam, weave around poles and bounce their way through a 36’ long inflatable course before making their way to the finish line.  Participants also have the opportunity to give their best shot at minute-to-win-games, a football toss, relay races and more.  Kids will showcase their skills in age appropriate events and volunteers will validate the time-keeping practices.

This is more than a children’s event!  Adults are encouraged to form a team and participate in the 4-on-4 Sand Volley Ball Tournament (teams must be pre-registered to participate) or just sit back and enjoy the cool breezes off the Mississippi River.

Riverview Games will be held from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Saturday, August 22, 2015 in Riverview Park, Fort Madison, Iowa. The Riverview Games Closing Ceremony will acknowledge the winning 4-on-4 Sand Volleyball Team and “best times” for children.  Podium placement and award medals will be given.  A drawing for prizes for participants will end the day.

The event is sponsored by the Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce, Fort Madison Chamber Ambassador Club, Fort Madison Kiwanis Club, Fort Madison Rotary Club and the Fort Madison Lions Club.  To register your sand volleyball team, contact the chamber at chamber@fortmadison.com or 319-372-5471.
