The MPHS cross country teams ran at Williamsburg Tuesday.  The 8th ranked Panther boys’ team looked very impressive in winning the team title with 31 points.  Defending Class 3A State individual titlist and #1 ranked Logan Murray finished 1st in a time of 17:09. The rest of the M.P. finishers that were counted in the score,  Cody Mertens was 3rd in 17:49, Adam Bodenham 4th 17:51 Kyle Vanderham 5th and Ryan Hutchison 18th.  Mid Prairie was 2nd  in the boys team standings with 63 points.

On the girls’ side Mid Prairie was the winner with 53 points and Ft. Madison was 2nd with 63 points.  Mt. Pleasant finished 8th with 178 points.  Abby Ryon had the best finish coming in 4th in 20:51, Delaney McDowell was 28th 23:39, Taylor Murray 43rd, Kelsey Notestein 47th and Kendall Dascher 56th.

The MP Middle school boys placed 2nd at the Williamsburg Invitational. Top five runners were Drake Snavely, Nathan McWillimas, Heath Brooks, Connor Axman, and Luke Ryon.

The MP Middle School Girls were 3rd at the Williamsburg Invitational.  top five finishers were Cristina Carthey, Anna Ostby, Abby Jalas, Alyssa Dascher, and Marie Sitar.

 

The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has announced the Girls and Boys State Cross Country qualifying meets, it appears Mt. Pleasant will either compete in the Pella or Solon meets.

 

MPHS volleyball team opened up the Southeast Conference play at 14th ranked Ft. Madison last night falling in a sweep 25-17, 25-20 and 25-22.  Makayla Beason 5 kills, Ashlee Menke 16 assists, Abbie Liechty 3 solo blocks and 4 assists.  Kirsten Smith 13 digs.  Mt. Pleasant hosts the 10th ranked Fairfield Trojans Thursday.  MP JV volleyball lost to Ft. Madison last night. 24-26; 25-29; 2-15.  The Panther 9th grade team  lost to Fort Madison in two sets. 17-25 and 20-25.

OTHER AREA SCORES: Central Lee, Donnellson 21-21, Washington 18-10, Columbus, Columbus Junction 21-13-15, Washington 17-21-11, Fairfield 25-25-25, Keokuk 11-20-9, Wilton 21-21, Washington 6-10.

Sports activities going on this week….

THURSDAY:  The MPHS volleyball teams’ host 10th ranked Fairfield.

FRIDAY:  Mt. Pleasant travels to Mediapolis for football, freshman game at 5 p.m. and varsity to follow.

SATURDAY:  Mt. Pleasant hosts a freshman volleyball tournament.  The girls and boys cross country teams will run at Pella’s Invitational.  Iowa Wesleyan opens their football season hosting Cornell College of Mt. Vernon kickoff is at 7 p.m. KILJ-FM.
