Area volleyball scores:  WMU 3-0 winners over West Burlington.  Mediapolis won a triangular at Columbus Community.  Bullettes defeated L&M and Columbus in sweeps.  Columbus Community then swept L&M.  Burlington defeated Keokuk in 3 straight games in non-conference volleyball.

The Mt. Pleasant Panther football team opens the 2016 season at home tonight against Clear Creek Amana.  The two teams met last year with the Clippers winning 19-6.  CCA went on to finish 5-5 losing in the 1st round of the playoffs, MPHS ended the season 1-8 winning their last game of the season over Ft. Madison 14-13.  Returning to lead the Panther offense is Pat Canby who rushed for 675 yards and 6 touchdowns averaging 4.4 yards per carry.  Zac Ebling rushed for 164 yards.  Canby is also the leading returning receiver catching 26 balls for 422 yards.  He also ended as the leading scorer with 60 points and by the way led the defense also with 62 tackles.

The freshmen teams will meet at 5 p.m. and the varsity tilt will follow, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will broadcast the varsity game live beginning with our pregame shows at 6:30 pm.

Former Mt. Pleasant Panther basketball player Jordon Ashton will be a graduate transfer at UNI this upcoming basketball season  Jordon graduated from Iowa State in June after playing 1 season for the Cyclones.  He has been accepted into the Sports Psychology Masters Program at UNI in Cedar Falls.
