Waco hosted a volleyball tournament last evening.  Centerville made the long trip to Wayland and won the “A” pool with a 3-0 record, Waco was 2-1, Van Buren 1-2 and Columbus Community 0-3. In Pool “B” Pekin went 2-0, Wapello 1-1 and West Burlington 0-2.  The consolation match was won by Wapello 2 games to none over Waco.  The overall championship was won by Pekin as they downed Centerville 2-1.  The Warriors will hold their first Southeast Iowa Super Conference match next Thursday, hosting the Highland Huskies (2-1 overall) at Bob Hilmer Court in Wayland.

This week the Mt Pleasant Panther Football team will be having their team meal tonight at Mapleleaf.  The meal is early in the week due to the JV team playing  Ottumwa on Thursday evening.  The Tuesday night team meal is sponsored by Subway.  The local Subway store is generously providing the players with a sub sandwich, chips and a cookie.

Following Friday night’s Varsity game at home, the team will have a meal that is sponsored by Main Street Cinemas.  Scott and Amy Lowe are generously providing the funds to purchase loose meat sandwiches, chips and fruit for the players and cheerleaders.

 

The Fairfield varsity girls cross country team won Knoxville Cross Country Invitational yesterday. Taylor Ferrel turned in the winning time of 20:44. Norwalk ended up 2nd with 54 points followed by Knoxville with 59. The Fairfield High School boys cross country team finished 3rd with 46 points. Dillon Harvey was the fastest Trojan runner with the 6th place time of 19:44.

Knoxville was the winning team with 32, Norwalk was 2nd with 42 points.

 

 

The start of the 2015 high school football season begins this Friday night.  Here is a list of area high school football games for week 1 of the season:   Mt. Pleasant JV football team plays at Ottumwa Thursday at 5 p.m.  note that change of start time.  Friday night,  Ottumwa at Mount Pleasant (freshman play at 5 p.m.)   KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the varsity action live beginning with the pregame at 6:30 p.m.  Kcikoff at 7:30.     Columbus Community at Waco, WMU at Marengo Iowa Valley, New London at Wapello,  Danville at Highland, Fort Madison at West Burlington/Notre Dame,
Keokuk at Central Lee, Pella at Washington, Davis County at Fairfield, Lynnville-Sully at Van Buren, Mediapolis at Camanche.  Harmony at Cedar Valley Christian in 8 man football.
