The 2015 Mt. Pleasant High School “Meet the Players Night” will be held at Maple Athletic Complex tonight.  The schedule of events…..6:30 P.M. – Mt. Pleasant Athletic Booster Club begins serving meals    7:15 P.M. – Introductions of Cheerleaders, Players, Managers, and Coaches begins.  The MPHS Cross Country teams will be introduced, then the  9th, 10th and Varsity Football teams , followed by Volley Ball introductions.  The cheerleaders will be introduced next with football scrimmaging to follow.  The team that MPHS opens the season with Ottumwa will also have their meet the player event tonight.  Ottumwa is hosting Meet the Bulldogs  at Schaefer Stadium. The A club will sell food starting at 5. Football scrimmages include the 9th grade at 5:30, sophomores at 6:30 and varsity at 7:30.


Tonight New London High School Meet the Players night will be held, it starts at 6 pm with the volleyball scrimmage.  The evening will also include introduction of the volleyball, cross country and football teams. The annual parking space auction will be held.   Sweatshirts, T shirts and food will be available for sale.

The Van Buren volleyball team has an intrasquad scrimmage tonight at 5:30 followed by the Warriors football team scrimmaging at 7 in Keosauqua. There is no admission charge.

The start of the 2015 high school football season is coming up a week from tonight.  Here is a list of area  high school football games for week 1 of the season 8/28/15:   Ottumwa at Mount Pleasant (freshman play at 5 p.m., JV play 8/27)  Columbus Community at Waco, WMU at Marengo Iowa Valley, New London at Wapello,  Danville at Highland, Fort Madison at West Burlington/Notre Dame,
Keokuk at Central Lee, Pella at Washington, Davis County at Fairfield, Lynnville-Sully at Van Buren, Mediapolis at Camanche.  Harmony at Cedar Valley Christian in 8 man football.

Tiger Woods played his best round of competitive golf since 2013 yesterday in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Wyndham Championship Tourney.  Woods fired a 6 under par 64, 2 strokes behind 3 golfers tied for the lead at 62. Round two is being played today.
