FROM THE IRIS BOWLING CENTER AND SPLITZ LOUNGE SPORTS DESK.

Waco opened up the 2016 high school football season last night on the road at Victor-H-L-V and fell to the Warriors 28-13.  The Waco Warriors never had the lead in the game, HLV scored on their very first drive and were never headed after that.  After trailing 12-0 at halftime Waco came out in the 3rd quarter and mounted a 67 yard drive that ended with Jackson Roth throwing a 32 yard scoring pass to Colton Horak, the PAT was good and with the score 12-7 it was anybody’s game.  HLV kicked a field goal and added two more touchdowns to hold onto the lead.  Waco’s final score came when backup quarterback Wyatt Harbison threw a 30 yard touchdown strike to Colton Horak, Harbison was called into action after starting QB Jackson Roth was injured on a kickoff return play.  Waco will play at home next Friday night against Twin Cedars.

Waco showed well in the game stats last night.  They had 15 1st downs to HLV’s 11, had just 21 yards less in total offense, Waco had no fumbles but did have 2 interceptions, Waco had 50 yards in penalties while HLV had 100 yards.
