The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference has released the 2015 Football Coaches Preseason Poll. Iowa Wesleyan was selected to finish fifth in the poll, receiving 44 total points. The College of Saint Scholastica was voted to win the conference. Saint Scholastica finished with eight first place votes and a total of 80 points. Last season, the Tigers experienced their first winning season in 20 years. IW ended their season with an overall record of 6-4 and tied for fourth place in UMAC standings. Players from the KILJ listening area on the team: Tylor Hoyle, Donnie Johnson, Beau Parkevich and Tyler Ruby of Mt. Pleasant. Christian Henrickson of Central Lee and Nick Fencl of Danville.
The Iowa State Cyclones men’s basketball team fell to the Venezuelan National Team yesterday 82-77 in their 1st game of their foreign tour. Monte Morris led the “Clones” with 21 points and 8 assists. Georges Niang and Matt Thomas each hit for 14 points. Former Mt. Pleasant Panther Jordon Ashton had 3 points. Iowa State led 20-2 early in the game but fell victim to foul trouble and fatigue.
