The MPHS boys’ Cross Country team that placed 8th in the state and had Logan Murray as the individual champion, has been working out the first 3 days this week down at Oakland Mills Park.  The team stayed in the cabins and did their workouts in the park along with team building activities.  The Panther Cross Country teams will open August 30th at Williamburg.

Ft. Madison High School has notified Mt. Pleasant High School that they do not have enough players to field a freshman team.  So on September 23rd there will be just a varsity game on Evans Field, this is the Panther Homecoming game, the varsity contest will begin at 7 p.m. that night.

Mt. Pleasant Youth Football Program for 5th-6th Grade Tackle Football

will have equipment Fittings and Testing on August 13th at 1:00 at Cottrell Gym.

Registration Forms can be picked up at Becker Law Office, 201 S. Main Street, or can be completed at the Equipment Fitting.

 

There will be a Winfield Mt. Union Meet the Players night for fall sports and activities beginning at 7:00 PM August 18th on the football field.  This will be moved indoors in the event of inclement weather.  A meal will kickoff the evening’s activities beginning at 6 p.m.

 

KILJ Sports is airing more interviews today from the Iowa Football media day that was held this past Saturday, listen to sportscast 8/11/16 at kilj.com and hear Hawkeye Line Backer Josey Jewell and Running Back LuShun Daniels.

 

After six straight losing seasons Iowa State fans are hungry for a winner and coach Matt Campbell hopes to provide one in his first season at the helm.  More than a dozen starters return from last year’s team that finished 3-9 in Paul Rhoads’ final season in Ames. Campbell says there are too many question marks right now to get an accurate read on just how successful the Cyclones will be.  KILJ-AM 1130 will bring you all the Cyclone games during the 2016 season.

 

There are a number of programs for kids beginning this fall through the Mt. Pleasant Rec Department.

  1. Youth Flag Football 1st-4th

This program is designed to teach boys and girls the basics of football in a fun and safe environment. All games are played on Saturday mornings at the East Lake Softball Complex. Volunteer Coaches Needed!!!

Registration Ends: August 19

League will play: September-October

1st Practice: TBA

Fee: $20 residents and $25 non-residents

 

  1. Kindergarten Flag Football

This program is designed to teach boys and girls the fundamentals of football through fun and with no contact drills. Participants will learn how to properly throw & catch the football, run through drills, and learn how to communicate with their teammates. We will scrimmage each night during practice. Volunteer Coaches Needed!!

Registration Ends:  September 2

Program Dates: Tuesdays, September 13-October 4

Location: East Lake Softball Complex (Field 3)

Time: 5:30-6:15pm

Fee: $20 Residents and $25 Non-residents

 

  1. Panther Basketball Camp 3rd-6th

This camp will focus on the basic fundamentals used in the game of basketball. Campers will learns how to defend opponents and implement the offensive techniques necessary to become a scorer! This camp will be an introduction to the Youth Basketball Program starting in November! Camp will be instructed by the Mount Pleasant High School Head Coach, Paul Rundquist.

  1. Musical Motion Class Ages 3-5

Music! Music! Music! Join Sarah Zihlman for 5 weeks of fun! There will be a musical theme of games, dance, and exercise everyday!

Program Time: 9:30-10:15am

  1. Thursday Travelers Ages 3-7

Pack your suitcase this Fall as each weeks we “Travel” to other countries and enjoy games, snacks, crafts. We will enjoy the great autumn weather and learn about different cultures whiles having fun!
