Iowa Wesleyan baseball played the rubber match game at Eureka College yesterday. Pitching was the Tigers weakness giving up 25 runs off 16 hits in a 25-7 loss. Iowa Wesleyan drove in their first run off an RBI double by Ricardo Mollison and then Chazz Brown knocked him in with a RBI single. Eureka was able to tie it up in the bottom of the 1st inning. Tigers struck again in the 2nd with two runs off two hits. Minami Matsumoto and Jacob Leonard both had RBI hits to put the Tigers up 4-2. Eureka answered back in the bottom of the inning with four runs to lead 6-4. In the 3rd inning Chazz Brown was hit by a pitch and then stole second plus advanced to third on an error, Jack de Burgh then scored him on a ground out to second base. Eureka’s offense continued to roll with five runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Tigers fought to keep up with two final runs in the 5th inning but the Red Devils knocked 13 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Minami Matsumoto and Chazz Brown each had two hits and six different Tigers had and RBI. Chazz Brown also had a milestone game getting his career stolen base total to 52 which breaks the school record of 49 set by Devin Smith.  Iowa Wesleyan baseball is now 4-14-1 on the season and 2-5 in conference play, today the Tigers will host Cornell College at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex for a single game. Game time today is 5:30pm.


Mt Pleasant varsity girls tennis team hosted Fairfield yesterday. Panthers lost to the Trojans 8-1. The lone win came in singles where Olivia Larson defeated Destiny Gridley 9-8 with a 7-5 tie breaker. The girls tennis team is now 1-1 on the season.

Mt Pleasant varsity boys tennis team played at Fairfield yesterday. Panthers defeated the Trojans 7-2. In singles Mt Pleasant won four matches. Corbin Broeker won 6-3/6-3 over AJ Greiner, Donny Arledge defeated Will Sheppard 1-6/7-6(4)/12-10, Jack Schimmelpfennig beat Brian Parcel 6-4/3-6/10-6, and Clayton Henriksen defeated Michael Holt 6-1/6-3. Panthers won all three doubles matches. Corbin Broeker/Jaxon Hoyle defeated AJ Greiner/Blake Holden 6-2/5-7/10-2, Donny Arledge/Jack Schimmelpfennig defeated Noel Peterson/Will Sheppard 6-4/6-7(4)/10-7, and David Nguyen/Clayton Henriksen topped Brian Parcel/Michael Holt 6-4/4-6/10-5.


Mt Pleasant varsity girls soccer played at Columbus yesterday. The game was windy and a stalemate through the first half. Columbus took the lead with 30 minutes left in the game on a tap in off a goalie save. Mt Pleasant answered with 20 minutes remaining with a goal by Mary West. The Panthers kept up the pressure and netted the eventual game winner with 10 minutes remaining in the game, scored again by West. Mt Pleasant is 1-0 to start the season and will host Ottumwa for a Varsity/JV game at East Lake Park on Thursday.

Mt Pleasant varsity boys soccer also played at Columbus yesterday. Panthers offense was clicking in a 4-1 win. Goals were recorded Nathan Rauenbuehler who scored twice, plus goals by Oscar Barrios and Ovidio Reyes-Cardona. Panthers also recorded 3 assists from Cade Warner and one by Ethan Oilar. Mt Pleasant is now 3-1 on the season and will play again next Monday at Fairfield.

-Tuesday: Varsity girls golf hosting a varsity triangular with Fairfield and Keokuk at the Mt Pleasant Golf & Country Club 4pm

Middle School girls track will host an invitational at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex at 4:30pm. Teams competing include Burlington, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Mid-Prairie, Ottumwa, and Washington.

Varsity boys track will compete in a meet in Mediapolis at 4:30pm. Other teams competing include Columbus Junction, Highland, Lone Tree, Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, New London, Wapello, West Burlington/Notre Dame, and Winfield-Mt Union.

-Thursday: Varsity girls golf playing in an invitational in Keokuk at 10:30am

Varsity girls and boys track competing in relays in Washington at 3:30pm

Varsity boys golf has a meet up in Washington at 4pm

Varsity girls soccer vs Ottumwa 4:30pm and JV game at 6pm

-Friday: Varsity boys tennis vs Centerville 4:30pm

Boys middle school track hosting an invitational at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex at 4:30pm. Teams competing include Burlington, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Mid-Prairie, Ottumwa, and Washington.

-Saturday: JV boys soccer playing in an invitational at Fort Madison starting at 9am

On April 20th there is going to be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament taking place at Mt Pleasant Middle School. There are several age groups for male and female teams to compete in.  Iowa women’s basketball had a rough outing in their Elite 8 matchup with #1 seed Baylor last night. Hawkeyes fell to the Bears 85-53. Iowa was led by Megan Gustafson who scored 23 points and had 9 rebounds. She finishes the season with 1,001 points which makes her the 4th player in Division I women’s basketball to accomplish that feat. Gustafson was also voted to the Associated Press All-America team. Iowa ends the season with a record of 29-7. Baylor advances to the Final Four to play #2 seed Oregon, the winner of that game will face the winner of #1 Notre Dame/#2 Connecticut for the NCAA championship on Sunday.
