Mary Wester of Mt. Pleasant High School finished 6th in the girls high school shot put at the Drake Relays with a throw of 41’ 8 ¼” .

Ben Canby of Mt. Pleasant finished 2nd  in the boys high school discus throwing 175’ 7”.  Erik Nelson of Waukee won the event with a toss of 187′ 8″.

Kelsi Phipps finished 6th in the 100 meter hurdle finals in a time of 15.44, she made the 100 meter hurdle finals running 15.61 in the prelims, 7th fastest. The winning time was a 14.97 by Mallory Vawter of BCLUW High School. Hannah Becker did not make the finals she ran 26th in 16.39 in the prelims.

Cole Phillips had the fastest prelim time in the 110 meter high hurdles at 14.37, but finished 2nd in the finals in 14.52 getting edged out by defending class 3A state champion Connor Ham of Solon who ran 14.31. Spencer White ran 25th in a time of 16.01 in the prelims.

Thursday….Mary Wester finished 15th in the Drake Relays high school girls discus competition with a throw of 119’ 7”, she did not make the finals . Lou Krieger-Coen of Winfield Mt. Union finished 8th with her best toss ever of 128’ 5”. Heidi Hillyard of Mediapolis had a throw of 109’ 9 “to finish 22nd the winning throw was 159’ 4”. On the boy’s side Mt. Pleasant Panther Ben Canby threw the shot put 51’ 3 ¼” to finish 14th, the winning distance was 59’ 5 ½”. Jeff Giannettino of West Burlington-Notre Dame won the high jump again going 7’1”, right behind him was team mate Xavier Williams who went 6’ 10” for 2nd place. Mitchell Martin of Danville High School finished 8th in the high jump going 6’5”.

DRAKE RELAYS SCHEDULE FOR AREA   ATHLETES: TONIGHT: SATURDAY: 8 A.M. MPHS girls in shuttle hurdle prelims, finals at 12:20. 8:15 Shuttle Hurdle boys prelims MPHS, finals at 12:15 p.m. 1:33 p.m. Cole Phillips in 400 meter hurdles.

The MPHS girls track team ran at the Washington Relays and finished 3rd with 99.5 points, Benton won the team title with 154 and Washington 2nd with 135.5. Panthers won the 4×800 relay in 10:23.37 with Ellie Conrad, Laura Hult, Delaney McDowell and Natalie Ita.

The MPHS boys track team finished 4th at the Eddyville Relays with 82 points, Pekin won the team title with 134, Mediapolis was 2nd with 99. Zoom Gwamna won the 100 meters in 11.57. Jake Lowe won the 400 hurdles in 60.56

Burlington blanked the MPHS boy’s soccer team 4-0. Holy Trinity Catholic blanked Mt. Pleasant in girl’s soccer 5-0.

West Burlington-Notre Dame won the girls and boys divisions of the Winfield Mt. Union Invitational. Lady Falcons scored 161 points ahead of 2nd place Danville with 108, Waco scored 65 for 3rd. WMU tied for 4th with Columbus Community. The Falcons won with 139 points, WMU was 2nd with 128.

MPHS girls golf finished 2ND AT Oskaloosa Invitational with a 370 score, Ottumwa the winner with a 365. Haley Booton of MPHS was medalist with an 82.

MPHS boys golf team defeated Fairfield 171-186. Nick Higgins of the Trojans was medalist with a 37 score. Jordon Phomsouvandara for MPHS had a 38.

On the local sports scene today:   Friday: Keokuk at MPHS girls tennis, MPHS boys tennis at Keokuk. Saturday: MPHS boys golf at Washington Invitational postponed till May 5th.

The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team will host Fontbonne University this weekend for the final conference series of the year. The Tigers will honor their seniors between the double-header on Saturday, with the first pitch of the day starting at 1 p.m. Iowa Wesleyan will also have a breast cancer awareness day on Saturday, April 25, 2015. The baseball team will be selling t-shirts, and a concession stand will be open throughout the day. Pink ribbons will also be passed out at the game.
