Washington defeated the MPHS girls in high school golf last night 189-204 at the Washington Country club. Medalist honors went to Sarah Nacos of Washington shooting a 42. MPHS scores: Haley Booton shot 48, Elle Schliesman 49, Emily Cox 52, Cali Liechty 55, Haley Spence 59, Ally Lowe shot 65.
Mt. Pleasant defeated Ft. Madison in girls high school soccer in Mt. Pleasant last night 5-1. Jasmine Craff and Lauren Ralls each had 2 goals for M.P. Hattie Liechty had a single goal. Tiffany Liechty had 4 saves in goal for the Panthers.
Ft. Madison handed the Mt. Pleasant Panther boys soccer team a 4-1 loss in Ft. Madison.
The Mt. Pleasant Middle School boy’s 8th grade track team won the team title at the Burlington Middle School Relays with 190 points, Burlington was 2nd with 183.
Hannah Becker a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Missouri Central University in Warrensburg, Missouri a division II NCAA school and compete in track. Hannah will be groomed to be a heptathlon athlete. She is the daughter of Aaron and Amy Becker of Mt. Pleasant and wants to major in accounting.

Pleasant High School girls track relays at 5 p.m. 18 schools competing.
The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team will host Fontbonne Unversity this weekend for the final conferene series of the year. The Tigers will honor their seniors between the double-header on Saturday, with the first pitch of the day starting at 1 p.m. Iowa Wesleyan will also have a breast cancer awareness day on Saturday, April 25, 2015. The baseball team will be selling t-shirts, and a concession stand will be open throughout the day. Pink ribbons will also be passed out at the game.
436 high school seniors from across Iowa will be honored Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the 13th Annual Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony, held at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines starting at 1:00 p.m. The Honorable Governor Terry Branstad will host the event and address the audience of 2,500-plus. Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill; Dr. Craig Scott, Chairperson of the Board of Control of the Iowa High School Athletic Association; and Clemencia Spizzirri, 2015 Iowa Teacher of the Year, will also deliver messages to the students and their guests. Spizzirri’s message will be a video as her Iowa Teacher of the Year duties require her to travel to Washington D.C. at the time of the ceremony. The seniors being honored were selected by their high schools as their highest academic achievers. Each student will receive a photo plaque of themselves with Governor Branstad and a certificate to commemorate their achievement. Each student’s most influential teacher will also receive a certificate of appreciation. Mt. Pleasant High School students to be honored are Elaina Conrad and Jessica Holtkamp.
A total of 182 athletic officials are scheduled to receive awards at the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s 21st Annual Officials’ Banquet and Recognition Ceremony, Saturday, April 25 at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines. This year’s list of honorees includes 10 officials who each have 50 years of service. Twenty-eight individuals will be honored for 35 years of service; 41 others for 25 years and 82 for completing 15 years of officiating. This year’s keynote speaker is ESPN TV/Radio Football Rules Analyst and former Big Ten Conference football official Bill LeMonnier of Tinley Park, IL.
The Drake Relays will be held this week in Des Moines, Mt. Pleasant High School girls and boys track teams will be well represented.
For Dave Hutchcrofts girl’s team, Mary Wester will throw the discus and shot put. Kelsi Phipps will run all the hurdle events, 100 meter, 400 meter and shuttle hurdle relay and will be on the 4×100 relay. Hanna Becker will run the 100 meter hurldles, shuttle hurdle and 4×100 relays. Sidney Taylor and Allison Buckert will run the shuttle hurdle relay. Katie Ensminger and Danielle Coffin will run legs on the 4×100 relay.
The MPHS boys team will have Ben Canby throwing the shot and discus. Cole Phillips will run the 110 high hurdles, the 400 hurdles and the shuttle hurdle and 4×100 meter relay. Spencer White will run the 110 highs and shuttle hurdle relay. Jake Lowe will run in the shuttle hurdle. Brock Wilson will be in the shuttle hurdle relay. Zoom Gwamna, Tony Cristoforo and Dshundric Foster will be in the 4×100 relay.

Once again in June the Mt. Pleasant Panther Alumni football team will play the Washington Demons. This year’s matchup will be on Evans Field June 13th at 7 p.m. Former MPHS football players who are interested in playing in the game should go to www.alumnifootballusa.com and signup also visit the MP Alumni facebook page. Bob Jensen will be coaching, proceeds from the event will go to Iowa City Childrens Hospital.
The Iowa Wesleyan College Tiger Club will host a golf tournament on June 12, 2015 at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. The tournament will be organized by the athletic department, and the event will benefit Tiger student-athletes. Registration for the event is now available at http://www.iwctigers.com/f/golfouting.php and can be completed online or by mailing in the registration form. There is limit of thirty-six teams for the tournament. Contests will be held at several different holes throughout the course and will include hole in one, longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin. A cocktail reception will take place after the completion of play, and raffle drawings will be held at that time. Iowa Wesleyan would like to thank the sponsors for helping make this event possible. Matt Lafrenz , a Country Financial agent, and Two Rivers Bank and Trust will be recognized as the title sponsor for the event. Country Financial is also the sponsor for the hole in one contest.
Iowa Wesleyan College is excited to announce that Shottenkirk of Mount Pleasant will be sponsoring the Athletic Hall of Fame and Awards Ceremony. This event is being held to honor the student athletes that participated and excelled in the classroom and in their field of play at Iowa Wesleyan. It is also an opportunity to recognize the Hall of Fame inductees and their accomplishments during their time at the college. The banquet is scheduled for May 1, 2015. A reception will be held from 6:30-7:00 p.m. with the ceremony beginning at 7:00 p.m. The honorees for 2015 will be Bernita Rohlfing class of ’53, Kenneth Sutton ’58, Marcus Washington ’92 and Floyd Turner class of 2008. After the ceremony, the Hall of Fame reception will be held in the Social Hall. Reservations for the event can be made by contacting the Alumni Office at 319-385-6215 by April 15, 2015.
On Sunday May 3rd the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club will host the Darrel Brown Memorial 3 man best shot tournament for members and non-members. Tee off is at 10 a.m. the cost is $60 per team. Sunday May 17th is the women’s opening day best shot tournament with a 10 a.m. tee off. Memorial Day Monday May 25th there is a men’s 3 man best shot tournament for members and non-members at 8 a.m. for $60 per team. A 4 couple alternating best shot tournament will be held at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $80 per team for members and non-members.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the teams that will be competing in the state qualifying meet at Mt. Pleasant on May 14th………Clear Creek Amana, Davenport Assumption, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Solon, and Washington.
As part of its officials recruiting and education program, the Iowa High School Athletic Association will be hosting FREE baseball umpire clinics around the state in April. The clinic for S.E Iowa will be held at
Iowa City, West High School Wednesday, April 29, 2015 .
Equipment needed for the clinics is: an umpire mask and umpire cap. Other items for new officials as well as veterans will be available for purchase at each site. The Clinic will cover positioning for calling balls and strikes, base coverage, new rules and overall baseball umpiring mechanics.
Anyone interested in getting involved in umpiring at any level is welcome free of charge. Those desiring to umpire at the high school level, must register with the Iowa High School Athletic Association. Information can be obtained at www.iahsaa.org click on officials at the top of the page, click on online registration, fill out the paper work and use a debit or credit card to pay your dues. You will receive a password for your account.
From April 27-May 5 umpires will be able to take the online open book exam, which must be passed and view the online rules meeting. Those having questions can call Roger Barr, Director of Officials at 515-432-2011.
