Mt Pleasant varsity boys soccer played in an invitational on Saturday in Fort Madison. In the first game the Panthers faced the host Bloodhounds and won the first game of the season 1-0. The lone score came from Ovidio Reyes-Cardona and keeper Logan Lee had 8 saves. In the second game the Panthers played Davenport North but lost 2-0. Mt Pleasant was able to record 10 shots in the game. In the third and final game Mt Pleasant played Holy Trinity and won 3-2 over the Crusaders. Cade Warner, Ovidio Reyes-Cardona, and Avery Scandridge all scored goals for the Panthers. Mt Pleasant starts off the season with a 2-1 record.
Iowa Wesleyan men’s golf played in the Jim Wetherbee Memorial Invitational hosted by Knox College over in Galesburg Illinois. Kirkwood Community College won the event with a team score of 580 and Iowa Wesleyan just missed a top ten finish with a team score of 659. Blake Forsythe and Jaime Suarez were the leading Tigers. Forsythe shot the team low 75 on the first day and followed that up with an 81 on day two. Suarez shot 81 on day one and then 75 on day two. Both tied for 21st place. Iowa Wesleyan men’s golf will be back in action on Thursday in the Clarke Spring Invitational taking place in Galena Illinois.
Iowa Wesleyan softball was scheduled host a pair of double headers over the weekend against Spalding University and Blackburn College but field conditions weren’t suitable for gameplay and both matchups were postponed. Make up dates are still being determined.
Weather was also factor on the Iowa Wesleyan baseball team’s road trip. Tigers and Eureka College had to push the double header to Sunday and will complete the series today. In game one pitching and defense was in full effect with both teams combining for just 7 hits. Tigers had four hits and the most important one was a Jacob Leonard solo home run in the 3rd inning that led the team to a 1-0 win. Joe Morrison picked up the win on the mound with a complete game shutout with two strikeouts and no walks. Game two was a completely different kind of game with both teams combining for 34 hits. Tigers scored two runs in the 1st inning off a Chazz Brown 2 RBI double. Eureka tied it up in the bottom of the 1st but Iowa Wesleyan would score again in the 2nd inning with Jack de Burgh scoring on an error. Red Devils exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Tigers scored their final two runs in the 4th inning off a Cullen Papenhagen 2 RBI single. Eureka’s offense continued to explode with 14 runs over the next three innings to win 24-5. Tigers and Red Devils will play in the rubber match today with first pitch at noon.

Middle School girls track will host an invitational at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex at 4:30pm. Teams competing include Burlington, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Mid-Prairie, Ottumwa, and Washington.
Varsity boys track will compete in a meet in Mediapolis at 4:30pm. Other teams competing include Columbus Junction, Highland, Lone Tree, Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, New London, Wapello, West Burlington/Notre Dame, and Winfield-Mt Union.
-Thursday: Varsity girls golf playing in an invitational in Keokuk at 10:30am
Varsity girls and boys track competing in relays in Washington at 3:30pm
Varsity boys golf has a meet up in Washington at 4pm
Varsity girls soccer vs Ottumwa 4:30pm and JV game at 6pm

On April 20th there is going to be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament taking place at Mt Pleasant Middle School. There are several age groups for male and female teams to compete in. -Iowa women’s basketball continues their run in the NCAA tournament making their way to the Elite 8. Hawkeyes will face #1 seed Baylor today at 6pm in Greensboro North Carolina. The winner of this game will move on to the Final Four to play Oregon on Friday. In the other game today #1 seed Notre Dame will play #2 Stanford at 8pm, winner of that game will play #2 Connecticut in the Final Four.
