The Mt. Pleasant Community School District will have a number of coaching positions to fill for next year. Dave Hutchcroft is stepping down as varsity girls basketball coach after a one year stint, his assistant coach Nathan Lange is also resigning. Mark Cremer has resigned as varsity volleyball coach as has 9th grade volleyball coach MaKenzie Sartorius. Jeff Batty has resigned from 7th grade assistant football coach, Alan Peck as assistant varsity girls track and Michael Pilcher JV wrestling coach has resigned. All these resignations will be acted on by the school board tonight.
Mt. Pleasant defeated Washington in boy’s high school golf Friday night on the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club Course by using the 5th tie breaker after both teams shot 169 scores. The Panthers Jeff Cox was medalist with a 40, Trevor Mabeus shot 42, Riley Kempker 43, William Kinney 44 , Sam Van De Berg shot 48 and Collin Baccam 50. Washington won the JV match 189-206, Jacob Feldman and Beau Parkevich were low for Mt. Pleasant with 50’s.
The MPHS JV boy’s soccer team won 2 of 3 matches Saturday in the Ft. Madison Tournament. They beat the host school 2-0 and Wapello 3-0. North Scott won over M.P. 3-0.
The MPHS girls tennis team was in action Saturday at the Ft Madison Invitational Tournament. Team scores: Notre Dame/W Burlington 17, Keokuk 9, Maharishi 9, Ft Madison 8, Holy Trinity Catholic 3, Mt Pleasant 2. MPHS girl’s varsity soccer team beat Ottumwa Friday night 3-0. Goal scored by Addison Gomez, Maddy Long and Lauren Ralls.
Mt. Pleasant High School varsity boys tennis team defeated Fairfield on the road Friday night by a score of 8-1. Singles match winners for the Panthers: Austin Meyer, Blake Wickham, Ben Zihlman, Jared Batty and Matt Thorne. Combining for doubles wins were: Meyer and S. Wickham, B. Wickham and Zihlman, Batty and Thorne.
On the local sports scene today: MPHS girls golf team host Muscatine and Burlington at 3:15, MPHS boys golf at Keokuk, MPHS girls soccer hosts Fairfield, MPHS boy’s soccer at Fairfield.
Iowa Wesleyan hosted Spalding University at Eureka College for a neutral site home double-header Saturday. The Tigers dropped both games of the day, falling 10-1 and 12-2. The team traveled to Greenville, Illinois to take on Spalding University Sunday. The Tigers were the home team in the neutral site games, and came away with two losses on the day. Iowa Wesleyan fell in game one by a score of 5-2. The Tigers dropped the second game by a score of 8-6.Iowa Wesleyan will return to action on Wednesday, April 15. Wesleyan will play at Eureka College for a double-header starting at 3 pm.
The IWC baseball team split their double header with McMurray on Saturday winning the opener 6-4 and losing the nightcap 6-5. Sunday the Tigers fell twice to Spalding University 10-1 and 12-2.
Jeff Giannettino of Burlington Notre Dame High School has announced that he will attend the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. Jeff is a two time Drake Relays High Jump champion and State High Jump Champion. He is a member of the West Burlington-Notre Dame boys track team coached by Corey Lamm.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the teams that will be competing in the state qualifying meet at Mt. Pleasant on May 14th………Clear Creek Amana, Davenport Assumption, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Solon, and Washington.
