Iowa Wesleyan baseball hosted Blackburn College yesterday for a conference double header. In game one Tigers allowed a run in the 2nd inning but would answer with two runs of their own in the 3rd inning. Nick Salas scored on an error and then Jack de Burgh hit a RBI double to take the lead. In the 4th inning Dominic Gerace hit a three run homer to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead. Blackburn was able to score off a two run home run in the 7th inning but wouldn’t score again. Iowa Wesleyan won their 5th game of the season 5-3. Joe Morrison earned the win after striking out six batters and allowing just five hits over seven innings of work. Dominic Gerace fueled the offense going 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
In game two Beavers jumped out early with one run in the 1st inning but the Tigers tied it up in the 2nd off a RBI double by Tavares Williams. Blackburn had their offense rolling in the 5th inning with five runs, four of those runs came off a grand slam. Beavers went on to scored three runs in the 4th inning to increase their lead to 9-1. Bottom of the 4th Chazz Brown hit a solo home run to cut into the deficit. In the 5th inning Parker Leland hit his own solo home run and Nick Salas had a RBI single. In the 6th inning Leland went yard again but this time it was a two run shot. Beavers were able to keep their offense going and won the game 13-6. Tavares Williams had three hits in the game, Chazz Brown had a home run, and Parker Leland had two home runs and three RBIs. Iowa Wesleyan is now 5-19-1 overall, 3-9 in conference games, and will be back in action this weekend for a conference series at Webster University.
Iowa Wesleyan softball was down in St Louis for a conference double header with Webster University. Tigers entered the games with a six game winning streak. Iowa Wesleyan scored a run in the 1st inning off an error. In the 3rd inning Alex Eyman hit a two RBI single. Webster got their first score in the 4th inning to trail 3-1. Tigers scored five runs on five hits in the 5th inning. The two teams would trade runs over the next few innings but Iowa Wesleyan held on to win 10-7. Morgan Christner won her 10th game of the season with seven strikeouts over seven innings of work. Kayla Ford and Alex Eyman both had three hits and four different Tigers had two RBIs.
In game two Webster took the lead early with two runs in the 1st inning. Iowa Wesleyan got on the board in the 4th with McKena Woolery hitting a two RBI double followed by Allison Daum and Kayla Ford hitting RBI singles. Gorloks struck back and tied it up 4-4 in the 4th inning. Webster got one more run in the 5th and held on to win 5-4. Emma McDanel suffered the loss after pitching six innings and allowed two earned runs. Kayla Ford had three hits with Alex Eyman and McKenna Woolery both having two hits. Iowa Wesleyan is now 16-7 overall, 7-3 in conference play, and will be back in action on Friday for a non-conference double header with Lincoln College in the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
Iowa Wesleyan women’s golf competed in the Simpson Spring Invitational in Indianola. This was the team’s second spring competition. Graceland University won the tournament with a team score of 374, Tigers had a score of 438. Hannah Lien led the team shooting 101 on the day, she placed 21st individually. Claire Hanson shot 109 for 29th, and Maggie Calease shot 112 for 31st. The women’s golf team will be back in action on Monday when they compete in a dual with Waldorf University and then host the Iowa Wesleyan Tiger Classic on Tuesday at Sheaffer Golf Course.

Boys track will be hosting the Denny White Relays at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex at 4:30pm. Teams competing include Cardinal, Centerville, Central Lee, Clear Creek-Amana, Danville, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Iowa City Liberty, Keokuk, Lone Tree, Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, New London, Pekin, Van Buren, Waco, Wapello, Washington, West Burlington-Notre Dame, and Winfield-Mt Union
Varsity girls soccer will play at Keokuk at 5pm, JV game at 7pm
Boys middle school track has a meet at Burlington High School against Burlington, Fairfield, and Keokuk at 4:30pm
Today the Denny White Relays will be taking place in the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex. Mike Jay, voted as the “National Track & Field Announcer of the Year” will again be making the calls. Jay announces some of the biggest track events including the Drake Relays, US Olympic Trials, Iowa high school state meet, NCAA track & field championships, and much more.
University of Northern Iowa national champion wrestler Drew Foster was named the Big 12 Conference Wrestler of the Year. The former Mediapolis Bulldog won the 184 pound championship back on March 23rd, the first championship for UNI since 2000. Foster had a 5-2 record this season in Big 12 duals and a 10-2 career record in Big 12 duals. He also recorded 10 wins over top 20 opponents including four over top ten opponents this past season. Foster ended the season 28-5 and a career record of 95-35.
On April 20th there is going to be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament taking place at Mt Pleasant Middle School. There are several age groups for male and female teams to compete in.
