Special Traffic Enforcement Results

Between May 23, 2016 and June 5, 2016, the Mt Pleasant Police Department participated in the sTEP program (Special Traffic Enforcement Program).

As a result of the program there were 226 contacts on traffic stops.

There were 80 citations issued. There were 231 warnings issued.

Some people had multiple warnings issued for infractions.

There were four Operating while Intoxicated (OWI’s) issued.

There were eight arrest warrants served.

There were 36 motorist assists.

There were 16 accidents investigated. It was noted that many of the accidents were the result of not paying attention and the usage of electronic devices is the main reason for distraction. Please put the cell phone down until you reach your destination or can pull over safely.

There was a pre wave seat belt survey conducted and there was 86% compliance. After the wave, there was a 93 % compliance rate.  Iowa’s seat belt compliance rate is at 93 percent, one of the best in the nation but, still, too many of the state’s traffic fatalities are unbelted.  Those are lives that could have been saved. The consequences of not buckling up are too high, don’t become a negative seat belt statistic, always buckle up!
