BURLINGTON, Iowa- Get ready for great cycling action in downtown Burlington at the 35th annual Snake Alley Criterium on Memorial Day weekend. The excitement begins with the Burlington Road Races, finishing in the 300 block of N. Main in the evening on Friday, May 26. Afterwards, join in the fun with live music and refreshments during Friday Fest at the Port of Burlington.
The Criterium races begin at 8:30 AM downtown on Saturday, May 27, as hundreds of athletes from around the country compete for thousands of dollars in prizes. The popular kids’ races and Cobble Climb take place at noon, and the final Category 1/2/Pro race begins at 3:40 PM. Spend your day cheering on the racers as they make their way up Snake Alley, with spectators literally in the middle of the action.
New this year, the Snake Alley Criterium is included in the Midwest Flyover Omnium Championship Race Series. The Flyover combines the best omnium races in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin into one of the most prestigious amateur cycling race series in North America.
The Snake Alley Criterium races are made possible by Great River Health Systems, Two Rivers Bank & Trust, Burlington Bent River Brewing Company, CPA Associates PC, Mennen Plumbing, Nick’s Cycling and Fitness, Rule #5 Racing, The Washington, and the Greater Burlington Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Presented jointly by Bike Burlington and Downtown Partners, the Snake Alley Criterium is called “one of the most physically challenging races in the Midwest” by the Iowa Bicycle Racing Association.
