Smith Crowned Queen

The 2016 Henry County Fair Queen contest was held Friday night.  Kirsten Smith, the daughter of Jason and Debbie smith is the new queen, accepting her crown from the 2015 Queen Grace Edwards in ceremonies held in the Wright Pavilion. Kirsten will be a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School.  2016 New London High School graduate Summer Miller was first runner-up and selected by the other contestants as Miss Congeniality. Her parents are Darci Miller and the late Danny Eversmeyer.

Also,  before the Queen crowning, KILJ presented two young people with the annual Brownfield Ag Youth Award.  Thanks to the Brownfield Ag Network and Farm Bureau Becca Strothman of New London and Neil Davis of Winfield each received a special belt buckle award and a HyVee gift card for their 4H club. Becca will be a Senior at New London High School. She has been active in 4H  as a member of the 4H Wizards.  At graduation Becca plans to have not only her high school diploma but also a two year associates’ degree from SCC with a major in modern agriculture and food production.  She wants to go on to ISU for Agricultural Education and would someday like to be an ag professor. Becca’s parents are Eric and Kim Strothman.

Neil Davis, the son of Nancy and Carl Davis of rural Winfield. Neil has been an active member of the Scott Sodbusters 4H Club and has served as the Club’s president and vice president. He graduated this spring from WMU High School, where he participated in FFA and plans to attend Muscatine Community College majoring in Farm

Management. Neil and his brother Kerry have their own cow calf herd.  The brothers also rent farm ground.
