Simon Estes Coming to Wapello

Written by Theresa Rose on September 2, 2015

As part of his ROOTS AND WINGS TOUR, Simon Estes is coming to Wapello HS Gym on Sunday, September 20 @ 4 pm! The county’s public schools will be providing choirs from Columbus, Wapello, L &M, and Morning Sun to join in on this memorable choral concert. The concert will close with the mass choirs singing the Battle Hymn of the Republic with Simon Estes. Dr. Estes’ goal is to sing in each of the 99 counties of Iowa. He has been to Des Moines County and Henry County. Now he will be performing in Louisa County!

Not only is Simon Estes going to be performing his beautiful bass-baritone repertoire of classical, opera, and inspirational pieces throughout the concert, but he has also invited a guest artist to join the stage! She is Chiao-Yu Lin, an 18-year old multiple international piano contest winner who is from Taiwan and currently studying at Iowa State University.

This concert will feature the Iowa native, Simon Estes, who has sung for five US Presidents as well as the Pope, plus

the pianist wonder, Chiao-Yu Lin,

plus the four youth choirs from Louisa County,

and all of this has been provided by generous donors so that the entire event has been financially secured prior to the first note heard!

We are just shy of $1,500 of the total $13,700 needed. If you would like to contribute, please do so by September 15. Contributions may be mailed to Nancy Martin, payable to the Louisa County Simon Estes Concert, PO Box 129, Morning Sun, Iowa 52640. Questions? Call Nancy @ 319-572-6340 or email at

A very generous portion of funds raised goes directly to high school senior college scholarships. Money received in excess of our needed goal will be added to the scholarships! Please come. Please help. Make a musical memory!

Donations are tax-deductible and your name or business will be printed in the concert program. There will be a meet and greet after the concert where Simon Estes will autograph CD’s and books. There will also be an AFTER EVENT where refreshments will be served and the audience will get the opportunity to visit with the musicians in the Wapello HS Cafeteria and Gym.
