Short Pursuit Ends in Arrest

On March 10, 2018, at approximately 1:04AM, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office attempted to perform a traffic stop on a white, 2005, Acura Utility S.U.V. in the 1100 Block of East Washington Street, Mount Pleasant; for speeding and failing to yield/stop at a stop sign. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and pull over so a pursuit ensued through Mount Pleasant. The above-mentioned vehicle was finally stopped in an alley near Casey’s in Mount Pleasant. The driver was identified as Timothy Smith of Diamond, Illinois.

After an investigation, it was found that Timothy was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or prescription drugs. Timothy was arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail where he was charged with Operating While Intoxicated 1st offense (Serious Misdemeanor), Eluding (Class D Felony), Interference With Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor), Restrictions on Transportation of Alcohol (Simple Misdemeanor), Reckless Driving, Speeding, Failing to Obey a Stop Sign and Yield Right of Way, and Failing to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.

Assisting in this investigation were New London and Mount Pleasant Police Officers.
