Players Workshop Presentation this WeekendWritten by Theresa Rose on September 21, 2015
Players Workshop proudly announces the cast and show times for the first production of the season, The Second Time Around, a comedy in 3 acts by Henry Denker. Players Workshop, located at 1431 Grove Street in Burlington, is producing the play by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. The play takes place in the 1970s and concerns widowed seniors Samuel Jonas and Laura Curtis, played by Jim Beres and Carol Hinkle, who have met and fallen in love. Due to Social Security laws in force at the time, they decide not to get married, to ensure they continue receiving maximum social security benefits. This news is not well received by their children, neurotic Cynthia Morse, played by Clara Reynen, and “mama’s boy Mike Curtis, played by Wade O’Neal. Cynthia’s analyst husband Arthur, played by Bill Monroe, and Mike’s overbearing wife Eleanor, played by Sonja Rackham, add to the mayhem, as family secrets are revealed to the horror of some and the amusement of others. Also in the mix are grandson Bruce, played by Kevin Titus, and his girlfriend Angela, played by Hayley Thomas. Bonnie Downes is directing this farce, with Mary Fox as assistant. Bill Ell is the producer. The play will run Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept 25 – 27 and Thursday through Sunday, Oct 1 – 4. Evening performances are at 7:30 pm, which is a change from previous years. Sunday matinee is at 2pm. Opening night includes pre- show entertainment starting at 7pm. A reception including refreshments will follow the show. Season tickets are available by contacting Mary Krohlow at 319-752-8501 or may be purchased at the box office.
