Players Workshop Auditions

Written by Theresa Rose on July 29, 2015

Auditions for The Second Time Around, a comedy by Henry Denker, will be held August 2nd and 3rd at 7pm at the Players Workshop Theater, 1431 Grove Street, Burlington, IA. Auditions consist of cold readings from the script, which means no preparation is necessary. No experience is necessary, either.

The show runs September 25 – 27 and October 1 – 4. Performances are at 7:30pm except Sun matinee at 2:00pm. Attendance at all performances is required. Rehearsals will be in the evenings throughout August and September with the exact schedule to be determined.

The play is about widowed seniors who find romance in their golden years, but when they decide to “shack up” to preserve their social security payments, they meet with a wall of resistance and disapproval from their adult children.

The cast includes SAMUEL JONAS, an alert, spritely, attractive widower and his love interest, LAURA CURTIS, a pleasant, neat, devoted widow. Samuel and Laura are in their 60’s to 70’s.

MIKE CURTIS is Laura’s son, a hard-driving young businessman with a nervous stomach. His wife, ELEANOR, has the face and smile of an angel, but the soul and strength of a tyrant. They are in their 30’s to mid-40’s.

CYNTHIA MORSE is the daughter of Samuel, a neurotic suburban matron. Her husband, DR. ARTHUR MORSE, is a psychiatrist and a bit of a neurotic himself. They are also in their 30’s to mid-40’s.

BRUCE MORSE is the son of Cynthia and Arthur, a nice young college student with an active libido. His girlfriend, ANGELA, is also a college student with an angelic look. Bruce and Angela are in their late teen’s to early 20’s.
