Players Workshop Announces 2015 – 2016 SeasonWritten by Theresa Rose on July 29, 2015
Players Workshop, Burlington’s live theater since 1932, has announced its 2015-2016 season.
The season opens with The Second Time Around, a comedy written by Henry Denker and directed by Bonnie Downes. The play is about widowed seniors who decide to “shack up” rather than marry in order to preserve their Social Security benefits, but they must deal with the disapproval of their grown children. The play runs from September 25 to October 4.
Gene Anderson makes his directorial debut with the Southern farce, Christmas Belles, a Jones, Hope, Wooten comedy. The church Christmas program spins out of control with squabbling sisters, family secrets, a surly Santa, and a vengeful sheep. The play runs December 4-13.
The third play of the season is Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie directed by Steve Poling. This classic drama captures Tom’s memories of a crucial time in his life involving his mother and his crippled sister. The play runs February 19-28.
The final play of the season is Steel Magnolias directed by Paul Elledge. This comedy-drama with an all-female cast takes place in a small town beauty parlor, showcasing the strength of the characters. The play runs from April 22 to May 1.
All plays run Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon the first weekend and Thursday, Friday, Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon the second weekend. This year evening performances will begin at 7:30pm, which is a change from past years. The Sunday matinee remains at 2:00pm.
