Henry County Jail

 

In the interest of keeping Henry County residents informed, the Henry County Sheriff’s office has requested KILJ post the daily jail count. During the jail referendum campaign it was publicized that the jail would be able to house additional inmates from surrounding counties and this would generate revenue for Henry County.

Prep Volleyball: Holy Trinity Wins Tournament

Fort Madison — No. 5 Holy Trinity overpowered Wapello 21-10, 21-1 in the championship match to claim a first place finish at their home tournament last night.

Wapello and Holy Trinity met in the championship after going 3-0 in pool play, with the Crusaders knocking off Burlington, Winfield-Mount Union and Fort Madison.

Wapello edged Keokuk, Danville and Central Lee in pool play to earn their trip to the finals.

Winfield-Mount Union went 2-1, as did Central Lee.

Danville finished 0-3.

Volleyball action resumes in the area tonight with matches in the Southeast Conference.

Fairfield will battle Burlington, Washington is at Fort Madison, while Mount Pleasant will host Keokuk in a homecoming matchup.

All of those matchups will get underway at 7:15 p.m.

Prep Cross Country: 4th Annual Mount Pleasant Meet Tonight

Mount Pleasant — The fourth annual Mount Pleasant cross country meet is set to run today, with a wetter course than expected.

The race will be held at Mount Pleasant High School, with varsity boys’ starting at 5:00 p.m.

Varsity girls’ will run following the boys’ race at approximately 5:30 p.m.

As per usual, there will be two divisions of teams this evening.

Comprising the large school division will be Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Oskaloosa and Washington.

In the small school division it will be Central Lee, Columbus, Holy Trinity, Lone Tree, Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, Mid-Prairie, WACO, Wilton and Winfield-Mount Union.

College Football: Wesleyan Moves Game to Mapleleaf

Mount Pleasant — The Iowa Wesleyan football team will now play their weekend contest against Valley City State at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex, the school has announced.

The game was originally being prepared to be played at Bracewell Stadium in Burlington.

This will just be second of three games to be played at Mapleleaf this year, with the other being the homecoming matchup against Crown.

Wesleyan, 0-4, will be seeking win number one this weekend.

Kickoff Saturday is set for 1:00 p.m.

Due to contractual obligations with Iowa and Iowa State there will be no radio for this weekend’s matchup.

ISU Extension and Outreach-Henry County and the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance are pleased to announce the participants of the 2021-2022 Henry County Leadership Class. Henry County Leadership is designed to provide our community with an enduring source of diverse leaders who are prepared and committed to serving this region.

As a skills-building program, Henry County Leadership aims to identify and motivate emerging community leaders; provide an educational experience with a strong emphasis on both leadership skills and community awareness; and challenge participants to apply their talents within their community while providing an opportunity to become involved. Thanks to a wonderful partnership with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach-Henry County class members will experience three-hours of intense leadership training during each session. Following the leadership training, they will travel around the county to learn more about our community challenges and opportunities in Henry County. The nine sessions will include specific topics such as Education; Health Care & Social Services; Economic Development; Local Government, Crime and Safety; State Government; Arts, Culture & Tourism; and Agriculture. Classes will begin in October and conclude in May of 2022. Including this class, we now have 66 people that have completed this important training.

The Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance exists to improve the quality of life for Henry County residents through economic growth. The Chamber consists of 347 businesses, organizations, and individual members. The Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance encompasses the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce, Mount Pleasant Area Development Commission, Main Street Mount Pleasant, and Henry County Tourism.
