No Contract Agreement at American OrdnanceWritten by Theresa Rose on August 16, 2016
MIDDLETOWN, IA – American Ordnance LLC and Local 1010 Machinist and Aerospace Workers, Local 238 Teamsters and Local 150 Operating Engineers unions at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant have failed to reach agreement on new contract language. However, Local 13 Electrical Workers and five Craft unions did ratify a new three year collective bargaining agreement with the Company. The collective bargaining agreement contracts ended as of midnight, August 15, 2016. The Company has consistently offered a competitive wage and benefit package. The parties plan to meet today to continue negotiating in good faith to reach a new collective bargaining agreement.
American Ordnance LLC operates the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant producing medium and large caliber ammunition for the Department of the Army. The contracts cover approximately 450 production, craft, and maintenance employees at the IAAAP.
The Company plans to maintain limited production to meet the urgent requirements to support deployed soldiers and US forces with the use of management and non-union employees operating various production lines within the facility – and states that work will be available to those who report to work.
Agricultural activities may continue during the impasse through gate 3.
All recreational activities will cease during the impasse. Recreational passes will not be allowed on the plant.
