MP Supt Search Process Finalized

Written by Theresa Rose on November 10, 2015

The main topic of discussion at the Mt. Pleasant School Board meeting Monday night was the superintendent search process. Interim Supt. Dr. John Roederer presented a tentative timeline and format which the board took time to tweak. It was the consensus of the board members that they must do what they would have depended on a search firm to do. That means looking at all the applications in order to select final candidates for the position. The community will also be involved in this process beginning with a community meeting to allow for input regarding hiring criteria. District residents will have a chance to say what they feel are important qualities for a superintendent. This meeting is tentatively set for November 30 at 6 pm. The board is also seeking interested people to be part of one of five different stakeholder groups that will be asked to interview the final candidates. The board spent time Monday night deciding what those groups will be. The board is one group. Administration, faculty and staff will make up a second group. The other three groups are community members, parents and students. The parent group will include equal representation from each building in the district. Anyone who is interested in being involved should contact a board member or Dr. Roederer. The district will advertise the position with an application deadline of December 11. The plan is to have a new superintendent hired by the first part of February.
