MP City Council MeetingWritten by Anna Greiner on July 23, 2015
The Mt. Pleasant City Council met Wednesday in regular session. During the meeting, they held the first reading of a proposed ordinance that would rezone property in the 700 and 800 block of West Clay Street. A request to rezone from business highway to single family residential was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission with the Commission recommending approval from the full board as well.
Also approved was the first reading of a proposed ordinance to establish no parking on the east side of South Adams Street in the 800 and 900 blocks. This comes from the U.S. Postal Service as carriers experience difficulty delivering mail to mail boxes in that area due to cars that are parked in front of the mail boxes. Two more readings will be held before the final approval.
The city council approved an encroachment permit for a new business on North Jefferson called Simply Thrive for an awning over the sidewalk. Another encroachment permit was approved; this one for a new set of steps for the Brazelton building. The current steps on East Monroe will be removed and the new steps would be constructed in the middle of the building for access to retail space.
The Iris Bowling Center was granted permission to increase its outdoor service area for a special event fund raiser on July 25th and permission was also granted for a band to play outdoors for the fundraiser from 5 to 7 pm.
