Mickey “Mick” Martin, 65, of Farmington, Iowa passed away at 1:10 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Born May 16, 1950 in Farmington, Iowa the son of Glenn William and Anna Marie (Griswold) Martin. On September 7, 1974, he married Diane Schlabaugh in Kalona, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Diane, of Farmington, Iowa; one daughter, Jessica (Jon) Trosvig of Mendota Heights, Minnesota; one son; Eric (Lori) Martin of Donnellson, Iowa; two brothers, Ronald Martin of Temple, Texas and David (Sue) Martin of Burnsville, Minnesota; four grandsons, Nick and Tyler Philbrook and Mac and Tucker Trosvig; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Carolyn Martin.
Mick was a member and Elder of the Sharon Presbyterian Church. He was a 1968 graduate of Harmony High School, he then graduated from Centerville Community College. During the Vietnam era he served with the NATO – United States Signal Battalion in Germany. Mick worked as a mechanic at Jim Baier Ford he then worked at Harmony Schools and until his retirement he worked as a utility manager at Climax Molybdenum. He served on the Farmington Fire Department and was a Farmington EMT. Mick had an interest in land conservation and wildlife preservation. He enjoyed fishing, camping, being outdoors, hunting, motorcycle riding and racing.
Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson where the family will receive with friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. that evening at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Sharon Presbyterian Church in rural Farmington with Pastor Mary Ann Welch officiating.
Burial will be at the Sharon Cemetery in rural Farmington with full military rites presented by the Farmington American Legion Richardson Anthony Post #231.
A memorial has been established for the Farmington Fire Department and the Sharon Presbyterian Church.
The Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson is assisting the family with arrangements.
