The Avenue of Flags, Henry County Veterans Memorial Committee has made final plans for the 2015 Memorial Day observance.
On Friday, May 22, flags will be placed on Veterans graves throughout the county. At 4 pm flags will be placed in Forest Home, Old City and St. Alphonsus Cemeteries. Anyone is welcome to volunteer at Forest Home . Family members should be sure flag holders are in place.
On Saturday at 8 am, the flags will be raised on the Henry County Court House lawn and will fly for three days until 4 pm on May 25. Volunteer help in raising and retiring the flags is welcome and. encouraged.
On Memorial Day the observance will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Middle School Gym at 10:30 am. Please note this is a change of location from previous years. The event will begin with the presentation of the colors by members of the VFW, American Legion and Amvet Posts and Auxiliaries. Avenue of Flags Chair and Honor Guard Commander, Dean King, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. the Rev. Trey Hegar of the Mt. Pleasant First Presbyterian Church will deliver the Invocation and Benediction. Kallin Crile, Boys State representative, will read General Logan’s orders. Under the direction of Shari Moeller and Katie Townsend Mt. Pleasant Elementary student will present a musical presentation of the Gettysburg Address/Battle Hymn of the Republic. The featured speaker will be Colonel Kenneth Madden.
Organizations will be invited to present and place wreaths. If your organization would like to do so please let Dean King know before the service starts.
