Lord’s Cupboard to host Thanksgiving in July Drive July 17 – July 26Written by Theresa Rose on July 13, 2015
Fairfield, Iowa – The Lord’s Cupboard of Jefferson County is proud to partner with Hy-Vee to host Thanksgiving in July, a community-wide hunger-relief drive. Thanksgiving in July will be held Friday, July 17 – Sunday, July 26, 2015. All cash and food donations will be given to the Lord’s Cupboard, to help low-income families in need of food assistance.
Thanksgiving in July provides an opportunity for individuals, businesses, civic, and faith organizations throughout the community to come together for our neighbors. The focus of the Drive is primarily to raise cash donations, because The Lord’s Cupboard can purchase food at steeply reduced prices, therefore stretching each dollar donated. Please see below for all of the events where cash donations will be possible. Food donations are also welcome and may be dropped off at The Lord’s Cupboard weekday afternoons. The only requirement is that the donation be non-perishable, canned or packaged food which has not expired.
Fairfield Hy-Vee – To kick off Thanksgiving in July, The Hy-Vee Gas station will host grill-outs on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m, with a portion of all proceeds going to The Lord’s Cupboard.
Hy-Vee customers will be given the option to make a monetary donation by “Rounding Up” at all Hy-Vee check-out lanes from Friday, July 17 through Sunday, July 26. Please ask your cashier.
Trivia Night – On Friday, July 24, The Fairfield Arts and Convention Center will again host a Trivia Night to benefit The Lord’s Cupboard. This event gets more popular each time we host it – and for good reason! It’s an evening of friendly competition, tasty snacks, and cold beverages, hosted by Fairfield’s own Steve Smith of KMCD and Chad Romer of Hy-Vee. Trivia questions will be projected onto the big screen and participants (seated at tables of eight) will be asked 10 trivia questions during each round.
Cocktail hour begins at 6:00p.m. on July 24, and the Trivia begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, and are available for purchase at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center (641) 472-2787, or can be purchased at the door.
Fairfield Community Band Concert – Bring cash donations to the Fairfield Community Band Concert on Tuesday, July 21 at 8:00pm. Youth volunteers from First Presbyterian will be on hand to “pass the hat” for cash donations.
The following locations will host donation cans for cash donations:
Iowa State Bank
First National Bank
Libertyville Savings Bank ~ Fairfield and Libertyville
Pilot Grove Savings Bank ~ Fairfield and Packwood
Midwest One Bank
Community 1st Credit Union
Casey’s – both Fairfield locations
The Lord’s Cupboard will accept cash and non-perishable food donations.
