Living History Weekend at the FortWritten by Theresa Rose on April 15, 2015
April 18th & 19th – 9 am to 5 pm
Old Fort Madison in Riverview Park
Old Fort Madison, the replica fort that stands in Fort Madison will be hosting their Living History Weekend April 18th & 19th. Offering displays and interactive interpretation sites, visitors can come and tour the fort and learn what life was like for the soldiers who called Fort Madison home from 1808 to 1813. Old Fort Madison has been working with the North Lee County Historical Society, the National Parks Foundation, the National and state offices of Archeology, along with the city of Fort Madison, to preserve the original site, located at 4th street and Avenue H in Fort Madison. This area is part of the location where Old Fort Madison stood, prior to the city of Fort Madison, which was established more than 20 years after the fort stood here. Make plans to come down and experience what the 1st Infantry Regiment life was like when this area was unchartered territory and Native Americans still occupied the area.
