Leroy Henry Kruse

LeRoy Henry Kruse, 88, of rural Salem, Iowa, passed away at 11:37 a.m., Sunday, September 13, 2015 at his home.

Born October 20, 1926 in Salem, Iowa the son of Steve and Mary (Menke) Kruse. On May 2, 1953, he married Gertrude Mehmert in West Point, Iowa

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; five children, Sandy (Gary) Moeller of Des Moines, Iowa, Sherry (Jerry) Kramer of Dallas, Texas, Debra Kruse-Hart of Dallas, Texas, Randy (Angie) Kruse of Salem, Iowa; and Diane Kruse of Scottsdale, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Brad, Heidi, Sean, Arielle, Charles, Sheldon, Jeromy, and Christopher; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sister Rose Marie Kruse of St. Francis, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Billy, Leon, Alfred, and Herman Kruse; and one sister, Mary Ann Spellman.

LeRoy was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa, Houghton Knights of Columbus Council #3905, and Farm Bureau. He was a lifelong farmer. LeRoy served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Star Medals. LeRoy enjoyed dancing, watching television, reading the newspaper, playing ball and croquet with his grandchildren, farming, playing cards, and teaching others about farming.

Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. The family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa with Father Bruce DeRammelaere as Celebrant.

Burial with full military rites by the West Point American Legion Post #668 will be in the Saint John’s Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
